Just ran the numbers back to 1992. If you look at every season since divisional play begun, there have been 23 games in which had the loser actually won the game, that team would have represented the West in Atlanta instead of the winner (who was the actual representative).

Game that most often decides the SEC West:
*There can be multiple in a given season

1) Auburn vs. LSU
Years in which it decided the West: 1997, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2010

2t) Auburn vs. Arkansas
Years in which it decided the West: 1995, 2002, 2006, 2010

2t) Alabama vs. LSU
Years in which it decided the West: 1996, 2001, 2011, 2012

4t) Alabama vs. Arkansas
Years in which it decided the West: 1993, 1995

4t) Alabama vs. Mississippi State
Years in which it decided the West: 1999, 2014

4t) Arkansas vs. LSU
Years in which it decided the West: 2000, 2002

7t) LSU vs. Ole Miss
Years in which it decided the West: 2003

7t) LSU vs. Texas A&M
Years in which it decided the West: 2012

7t) Alabama vs. Auburn
Years in which it decided the West: 2013

I find it interesting that the Iron Bowl has only really decided the West one time (The Kick6 in 2013).

I also find it interesting that Alabama and LSU fans pretend that their game decides the West every. single. year. when in actuality, its really only decided the Division just 4 times (and just twice since 2002).

That was the big game each year when I was in school. Now it seems like they are blowouts one way or the other. 2010 was the last memorable game for me.

...and LSU sucked before 2000. Nick Saban anyone?

LSU sucked from 1992-2000.

Bama in the 90's was by far the best program in the West.

It's only been since 2008 that Bama and LSU have both been good at the same time.

The Auburn/LSU game was what the Bama/LSU game is today when I was a student.

No doubt it's a good one, but I'd say in the West.

AU/UGA having a tied series after >100 games is right up there.

I think the big series for LSU was Auburn up until 2007. Since Saban went to Bama and starting beating the Tigers, things have changed. Also, the LSU-AU series used to be a close slugfest almost every year, with a few exceptions. Now we've had 3 blowouts in 4 years. It has lost some of the luster it had for a long stretch.

DiNardo's run of success was short-lived, but LSU had a great shot to win the division in 96, and an outside shot in 97. If Herb Tyler doesn't get hurt in that 96 Bama game in Tiger Stadium, things might have turned out very differently.

In hindsight though, I don't think any LSU fan would trade a West title that year for what has happened since then.

Arkansas is well represented here, Auburns rivalry application is still denied though.....

Um, guess you weren't alive during the 90s ....

Bama went to the SECCG the 11st 3 games, 4 of the first 5 games and 5 of the first 8 games. 92-99... Lsu didn't make it until the 2001 season the 10th game. So basically Lsu sucked until 2001

Bama has 9 SECCG to 5 for Lsu.

You forgot 2005 for LSU-Bama.

No. How did a game in which neither team won the west decide the west?

LSU vs bama decided the west in 2012. LSU had already beaten Aggy, and had only lost to Florida previously. If LSU doesn't Chavis that game, we win the west.

If Texas A&M had defeated LSU in 2012, they would have won the tie-breaker over Alabama and represented the West that season.

I see LSU and Alabama on that list multiple times, so, LSU and Alabama decide the west like we stated earlier? Cool, good chat

2000 is wrong because neither Arkansas nor LSU won the west that year. 2001 is the year you were looking for, I think.
