Right now Bama is in the exact position they were in in 2015

Like this Bama team, the 2015 team hadn’t won a championship in 3 years.

In the previous two years, both teams had one year as runner-ups and one year where they were removed from title contention in the regular season.

And just like Bama vs Texas this year, that 2015 team had an early season loss to Ole Miss that dropped them to #13 and had people claiming that Saban’s run was over.

That team went on to win the title and continue the dynasty. Based on what I saw on Saturday, I think this Bama team loses 1-2 more regular season games, but I’m not ready to dance on their grave yet.

Let’s see how this season plays out.

People were afraid of that 2015 Bama team. They would stomp a mud hole in your arse. This team could legitimately lose to South Florida if they've got a good quarterback. That's the difference.

look at ND now without reece.. ooof dude must interview well

If Sabah can reel Mel back for career rehabilitation and DC, he may actually win one more title before 80

Part of me feels like Saban was banking on being able to bring Pruitt back

That 2015 Bama Defense got pissed off after that loss to Ole Miss. That defense embarrassed UGA in Athens two weeks later in a monsoon and never looked back.

That Bama team had a different mentality back then. When Saban shifted from a more defense, ground and pound mentality to the offensive, score more points mentality, they lost an edge they had for years.

Derrick Henry

They rode him to a NC and the defense was nasty

2020 is a true asterisk season. With some conferences starting late, games shifted around to end of season, players not allowed to play after contact tracing, same for some coaches, and so on. Ohio State just played 6 games before getting into the playoffs that year.

Saban planning and structure on and off field were better suited for that type of season as well.

It’s not just a coincidence that 2020 was Jimbo’s best season at A&M.

It was a great accomplishment to win in 2020 with all the crap and randomness going on (and political crap), but it really has to be looked at separately from other seasons and championships.

It’s more realistic to go back to 2017 season which makes this season less comparable to 2015 season. Even in 2017 Alabama didn’t win the West, and Kirby was still scared of Saban back then.

is Proot allowed back in NCAA to coach?

Mel would be a homerun hire. Maybe Kirby can reel him back before CNS if/when Shu takes a HC offer later this year

1. Georgia now has Kirby Smart instead of Mark Richt

2. Lane Kiffin is HC at Ole Miss instead of OC at Alabama. Now bama has a 30 year old as OC.

3. Saban was only 63 years old. He’s now in his 70s

4. The Alabama QB situation is much worse than it was then. Jake Coker was a mobile guy who came in against Ole Miss and mounted a comeback that fell short. He showed a lot of promise.

5. Alabama doesn’t have a RB in the same galaxy as Derrick Henry

6. The alabama defense is very good as always, but I’m not sure they have guys of the caliber of Jonathan Allen, Ashawn Robinson, Reuben Foster, and Reggie Ragland.

7. Alabama doesn’t have a first round level impact player at WR or TE like they did with Calvin Ridley and OJ Howard.

I think, at the core, Alabama’s team doesn’t have the discipline and toughness that the Alabama teams of 2008 through about 2018 had.

That 2015 team had leaders like Jonathan Allen, Derrick Henry, Minkah Fitzpatrick, etc. I don’t feel like there are guys like that on this team.

Since you were 7 years old at the time, let me count the ways in which they were different

2015 Bama had all these dogs…

Jake Coker
King Henry
A’Shawn Robinson
Jonathan Allen
Daron Payne
Jarran Reed
Dalvin Tomlinson
Reggie Ragland
Reuben Foster
Marlon Humphrey
Eddie Jackson
Minkah Fitzpatrick
Cyrus Jones

Do you understand now?

Only point I’d push back on that is the TE.

I’d say Niblack is probably our best receiver and will end up in the first round later on in his career…probably not to the extent Howard was though.

Sure a lot of Georgia boi's concerned about the Gumps past present and future.

It's odd coming from the self proclaimed Kings Of College Football.

In 1604 William Shakespeare wrote a famous line in Hamlet about a character perhaps protesting too much.
