Florida State opens the season at #1, but promptly gets destroyed by Miami. However, they win the next 10 games in a row.
Auburn loses 7-6 on a 4th down in Baton Rouge (Earthquake Game) and misses playing Notre Dame for the title by 1 point.
Defensive battle, with AU driving in the final minute. An FSU defender pushes the AU receiver's head into the ball on the last drive- this is before Instant Replay. If called, this gives AU the ball inside the 10 with a first down. 2 plays later, Deion intercepts to seal the game at 13-7.

It was strange how much Miami owned FSU during that late 80s early 90s stretch.

4 team playoff would have been nice with ND, Miami, Auburn, and FSU. Though West VA was also undefeated.

I was at the game with my brother in law, who has since passed away. We were sitting first row in loge level. I think it was the Auburn section. The row right behind us were two guys from FSU and an awesome looking chick with them. Anyway, as the game goes on the Auburn guys sitting next to the FSU guys are getting drunk and challenging the FSU guys.
A fight breaks out and we turn around I grab a FSU guy and have him in a lock. My brother in law has an Auburn guy in a head lock. We are screaming for them to cool it. The girl is Hispanic and just screaming and throwing shite. My BIL tells her to STFU and sit down. We get everyone calmed down. We both sit and look at our watches and realize we have skin from these guys attached to our watches and we start laughing.
Doesn't the FSU chick start shite again? My BIL stands and tells her to sit down and she tells him something. He grabs the front of her blouse and throws her back into her seat, forgetting to let go the blouse. Buttons go flying, she hits her seat, blouse all opened up. Men are going ape shite crazy.
I miss my brother in law, miss him not here so we can share that story together again

Weird title considering this was really a melt three and a half decades in the making.

Teams were evenly matched. Miami just always seemed to get the breaks. Two FG's and a 2 pt. conversion and it is a flipped script.

That was a very memorable Auburn team. The Auburn team after that was really dominant too. It was the first time Auburn posted 10-plus wins in back to back seasons ever and is still the only time ever. Great memories!

If it even happened, my guess is this lame story was paul Bunyaned into being bigger than it actually was.

Was this the war chicken sugar bowl or was that the year before?
Earthquake game I’m almost positive was 1988.
