Defenses are more geared towards stopping transition plays then they used to be.
Shortening the shot clock also reduces opportunities, like the offense breaking down and the defense getting a fast break.

Oklahoma basketball under Billy Tubbs would score 130+ in many games.

I remember that. You had to have some shooters to drop 130.
Nolan’s teams would roll up 120 on the reg

Kentucky in 96 had multiple games they scored over 125 and 100.
But they also let teams score 80-90 points in those games too.

Those was the glory years of pressing and of the philosophy that your goal defensively was to get turnovers.
When you press for 40 minutes you get a lot of easy buckets off open floor turnovers but you are going to give up a bunch of quick easy buckets too on the other end. When 2 press teams played each other it was an F1 race.

Everybody in a starting 5 used to be able to put it in the hoop.
Now 4 guys are dunkers and you got maybe one shooter

I’m also willing to bet there was little whistle on reach ins to get the turnover back then compared to since they made it an “emphasis” on the perimeter.
I’d be curious in foul differentials between now and then in general.

Teams try to play like the NBA with less than a third of the athletes the NBA has...

Slobbering Hog and Barnhill were the GOAT

Oh yea, not even close.
Anybody who grew up in the late 80s/90s grew up playing press defense, running press offense and being told over and over that you had to be strong with the ball against traps and presses because slaps and bumps weren't going to be fouls.
It's pretty wild how the press just completely vanished outside of late in games or in unique situations. It just isn't part of the game anymore. Neither is 3/4 trapping or any of the other pressure defense that everyone used to try and run in the 90s.
Guess it's similar to post players in that regard.

Eh, I wouldn’t say that. You had teams that could play above the rim then too. If anything you had more traditional post players versus position less basketball like you have now.

I remember watching that LSU-Loyola Marymount game and thinking first team to 150 wins.
Today I watched AU-TN and thought first team to 40 wins

Because college basketball has devolved into a slightly more gentile version of football.
