Kenpom is not a resume tool… it’s a gambling tool… it’s trying to strip out the bias and gain an advantage on vegas.
The fact auburn was favored by 4.5 but only won by 2… doesn’t surprise me we dropped slightly.

The committee does actually use Kenpom and factors it in. Think it was Summer of George the other day that said something about betting lines using Torvik or something.

They’ve used kenpom on the team sheets and added Torvik this year. They are still predictive metrics, not resume based. But the committee does look at them.
Yeah the NET you posted says updated through March 17.
I expect we will be top 2 or 3 in NET when it comes out next week even if we drop 1 of these next 2 because there is a resume component.

I get that…. Just no reason to be annoyed with Kenpom or any other prediction metric… it’s just a math formula.

I was trying to explain to my son yesterday before the game about how basketball (specifically CBB) is very random… it’s just 40 minutes… a couple guys get hot and you can end up losing. I told him auburn is probably better than ISU and if they played 10 times AU prob wins 6 of them… but that doesn’t really mean shite.
That’s how you need to look at metrics like Kenpom… they are predicting an outcome… but the randomness of an individual game makes using these metrics in head to head situations virtually pointless.

That’s why the tourney, while maybe the most fun postseason format in sports, is not really a good way to figure who the best team is

It can be hard to wrap your head around the fact that we’re behind a team we beat head to head on a “neutral” site in KenPom, and 2 of them in Torvik, but these rankings are not results oriented like, for example, RPI, which is exclusively results oriented. (Or used to be before they introduced quadrants in an attempt to rectify its flaws.)

The way RPI works the wins over Houston and ISU actually hurt us right now. Both of them are outside of the top 100. Everyone with a brain knows Houston isn’t 103rd in the country and ISU isn’t 213th lol.
