Not really. The Nutter fricked it up for everyone.

Nope. If you sign and place that spot is gone forever. You can only back count if you do not sign a full 25 the year before. So if we sign 23 this year we can sign 27 next year. But if we sign 24 including Griffin and he goes JUCo we can only sign 26 next year.

If you sign and place to prep school and EE they get their initial counter.
If we dont have widespread attrition we are going to be in a scholarship crunch and wont sign 25 anyways

The numbers will work themselves out... barring some true seeing-the-light type moments from the players already on campus, we are going to experience some serious attrition between now and the beginning of fall camp.
We'll lose 7-10 players between now and NSD 2014, giving us around a 25-man class.... book it.

I am pretty sure thats only if you were actually enrolled in a four year school prior to Juco. All you need is one full year and passing grades if not
I always understood that if you go to JUCO, you had to complete your curriculum there before signing with a 4-year school.

If you go prep school, you have to graduate from there before moving back to a 4 year university. I asked BM about this one day and that is what he told me. A kid can't go to JUCO and have straight As for a year and return without an associates degree.
ETA If the kid has no chance of qualifying, I would certainly pass on him and save the spot just in case we need. If there is any chance that he qualifies, even 5%, sign him and take the chance.

IMO it's worth the gamble even if there is no chance he qualifies now only because of how gifted Derrick is athletically. Derrick Griffins don't grow on trees. I think it's worth getting the 2 year leg up.

i wonder what the percentage of sign and place resign where they did originally. I know Auburn missed a lot of them in the Tuberville years but he sign and placed a ton of kids.

Even with serious 7-10 person attrition, that still places us at a number crunch for next year. We are at 85 with 13 or 14 seniors off the top my head. That is pretty darn low

that is why I said in the recruiting thread that I thought we would end up with 19-22 this year. We have 14 seniors with 1 extra open spot. I could easily see 5 people leaving the program for one reason or another this year to open it up to about 20 spots. The key is going to be leaving enough spots open to count back several the year after. We have 25 juniors now so that will be a big class leaving and a big void.

We are at 83 now. 84 if you count Lembke. drop those 14 seniors and you are at 70. 7 is a safe attrition number. So we are looking at 22-25 signees in 2014

Seven might be on the low side, as well... after spring, I think you'll see a few guys who won't see themselves as part of this staff's long-term plan (it's already happened with a couple).
We'll see how it all shakes out over the next few months, but IMO there's no way this staff (or any staff with its 1st full year to recruit, for that matter) isn't bringing in a full 25 man class next Feb.

So losing that initial counter spot for Derrick Griffin isn't the end of the world is what you are telling me then?

For the leg up on getting a player like Griffin in 2 years, exactly.

Color me skeptical on gifted yet stupid receivers. Thanks Delo.

I imagine we'll shed 2-3 before spring practice even.
