Either they are really confident that Ayton never got paid, or they think the value of playing him somehow outweighs the potential consequences.

I suspect they are confident they can't prove he got paid. Remember the FBI wants the agents, companies and coaches...they don't care about the players. They likely haven't accessed a players bank records, etc...in the end they simply don't care if the player got paid. They care if agents, companies and coaches are committing bribery and trafficking people across state lines.

Once Ayton leaves the NCAA will have no way to get him to talk.

How will this make bama burn? That’s my only real interest in that situation.

Avery Johnson says there's nothing to see here... took care of it last year when Sexton had to sit out a game.

"We addressed that last year," Johnson said. "Collin was suspended for a game and we've all moved on."

Lol so they actually claim to have sat him one game for offering tens of thousands of dollars, and that’s not even including the job offered to his brother? Yeah, right.

If Alabama paid this for a basketball player, I can only imagine what their payroll must be for the football team.

Can someone clarify again why Purifoy has an additional suspension this year?

It's the most AU thing ever that we have been very proactive in addressing the issues while other teams have done next to nothing but we are getting burned so much worse.

And we won't have to deal with it again after this year, while other schools like Bama who ignored it could be looking at vacated wins, sanctions, and a new HC by the time its all done.

While I am glad that we got ahead of it all, I think the NCAA lets the others implicated off light.

One thing to keep in mind in all this is that the FBI's investigation is targeting shoe companies, not schools. It appears to be part of a larger effort to combat shoe company corruption in all sports (Olympics, FIFA, BBall, NFL)

The FBI isn't trying to help the NCAA enforcement staff/ clean up CBB. So a lot of info that could implicate schools could go ignored by FBI and unknown to NCAA

Combination of him actually being present at dealings with an agent + this ain't his first rodeo with NCAA eligibility

while other teams have done next to nothing

First, the situations are much different. For AU, the FBI had a CI that actually exchanged money and had meetings with AU coach, DP, DP's family and Wiley's family

Even right now, the FBI's evidence of payments to players at other schools is based on phone wiretaps + testimony. The FBI hasn't come out and shown a papertrail $

Other schools like USC had a player sit out the entire year as well. Generally speaking though, when you hire someone with major infractions, you then have to play it ultra safe/conservative

If the FBI ever puts out concrete evidence, other schools will start to sweat and hope for NCAA leniency due to widespread nature of scandal.
