It shouldn't matter, but it does. Your naive to think otherwise. I don't know what the percentage of SEC caliber football athletes are black, but its a lot. Having a headcoach that's black would be a positive especially seeing as how lots of athletes consider their coach as a father figure.

PC pap.

Our last 'Assistant Head Coach' was black and a big part of the last staff was black. How exactly did that help?

Is Saban black? Did Clowney or Lattimore go to USC because Spurrier is black?

That would have been a dumpster fire.

The best coaches almost always have the best players. Sure, you have to be a good coach too, but you have to get the best players first. Is Saban a great coach or is he a great recruiter? What about Bear Bryant? I'd argue that both guys are good coaches and great recruiters.

Don't just hire a coach because he's black. He has to have some coaching ability as well (see Turner Gill). It's hard to argue that Strong doesn't have the coaching ability at this point.

If Auburn wasn't going to get Patterson, Petrino, or Petersen then I wanted them to get someone different. Stop trying to be Alabama like Chizik was doing. Strong and Malzahn fit that category. Either guy is fine with me since we didn't get the first three.

Charlie Strong would have been a good hire, but we didn't get him so no point in discussing it now.

However, there is this. Wonder if there is any truth to it and if so what Strong's involvement was if any: LINK

Again, name a school that has improved their recruiting with a black head coach. It doesn't matter anymore what race you are.

Very true. Look at Alabama -- they're highly successful even with an elf recruiting human players

Nobody is going to Louisville because Charlie Strong is black. Period.

Their recruiting hasn't really improved. What big names do you hear about going to Louisville?

Their recruiting may not have improved in terms of stars, but they seem to be recruiting the right kids for what Charlie Strong wants to do and there is much better coaching there with him in control.

I'm not arguing how good of a coach Strong is. I had him in my top 5 of coaches I wanted. I'm saying having a black head coach doesn't help recruiting. Wanting a coach just because he's a certain race is stupid.

This is funny. Classic overreaction to a bowl game.

Louisville got up for a game in which everybody counted them out. They went out and handled business. Major props to them. But this is the same team that lost to Syracuse and UConn and barely beat Rutgers.

I never did -- and still don't -- have a lot of confidence in Strong to produce an elite team in the SEC week in and week out. I'm not saying he couldn't do it, but it was too much of a risk for us, IMO.

And then we hired Malzahn
