Cohen was more assertive than the first interview about the importance of Durkin for roster retention.

Remember when Mal Moore picked Saban’s coordinators for him?

In what world does a great coach let the AD tell him who will be on his staff? That’s a bad look for Cohen and a bad look for Sumrall if he goes along with it.. assuming all that is true.

Nobody really wants Franklin. He has a reputation of being a jerk and he’s too expensive to be dropping big games like he did at Penn State.

A few times a week, you post something that I can agree with. If Sumerall wants to rebuild, dismissing Durkin is a great way to do it. Plus, like you said, Sumerall doesn't have the clout to make demands when it comes to roster retention in the NIL era.

Saban just left the NFL and had a Natty ring on his finger. Sumerall's best job is a fight to win whatever conference Tulane is in. Apples and oranges.

Sumerall may be given a huge opportunity. Drawing a line in the sand over not keeping a top DC who the players love, would be just dumb. Whoever he brought in to replace Durkin could not be better.

Maybe not but he is being looked at by UF, LSU & AU. I think Arky even took a swing...so hmm...seems like he could stand his ground on that. I don't think it went down that way but I could be wrong. I heard that there was consideration & mutual respect between the two.

Put me in the “an AD hires the HC, the HC hires his own assistants” crowd. Reports that the AD is dictating assistant coaches to interviewees is the staple of JABA.

I hope it’s not true.

If it is…whelp, guess I’ll see you all back here in about 3 years…

Ok, then don’t fricking hire Sumrall. If the AD thinks he knows better than the guy he’s interviewing, then the AD better not hire that guy. If you think you know better than this potential HC who the assistants should be, then you’re a shitty AD for not realizing this isn’t the guy you should hire. In summary - if he doesn’t know better than you, then you better move on to the next guy.

Would you guys take a coach who has the following attributes?

1. Only 1 loosing season in 4 stops as a HC. That season was his first at a new school, pre NIL.

2. Out of those 4 stints 4 10+ winning seasons about to make it 5 this year

3. Has his team in the hunt for the playoffs this year

4. Has had numerous 9+ win seasons

5. Overall record so far 129-51.

6 Top 20 in total yards this season on Offense, 82nd in Passing, 7 in rushing

7. 19th ranked Defense?

8. HC since 2010

9. less than 50 years old.

What do you think?
