How are you still managing to ruin every thread after all these years?

Same way I am managing to be called a Troy fan. I have no clue.

I’m warming to Durk being the guy more every day. I hope he fares well this weekend, and he can lean on his previous HC experience to correct what he did wrong. Sure would be easy to regain any momentum we had on the recruiting trail and keep our talent in house, especially all the young guys in defense. If they stay we will be fricking stacked next year on that side of the ball. Hire a hotshot OC (hopefully one attached to a competent QB who will come with ) and let’s roll.

My worry with Sumrall is that we end up with Sunbelt Billy 2.0

Some decent coaching going on in the Sunbelt. Bob Chesney for one will make someone a good coach as he has JMU rocking. JMU has a lot of talent transfer to IU with Cignetti when he left.

I don't want to end up with a retread coach who was fired because of performance. It is time to have a tough nosed coach who brings the lunch box to practice again. That edge works here.

Nothing wrong with the sunbelt but I hope you understand my point. Billy was great at ULL but under the bright lights in Gainesville he just couldn’t get it together.

Sumrall has the potential to be a program changing hire, or a flop. And honestly I think him (or someone like that) is worth the risk. Retread would be a huge mistake I agree.

Needs to be Sumrall. Natural leader, engaging, intense, no BS. Has shown he can build a roster quickly so risk of losing guys if DJ leaves is minimal.

Give him AU resources and he will do well. Very much the anti-Freeze, and it’s clear he wants the job. Hope we don’t over think this.

Sumrall does nothing for me.

Hasn’t ever worked for an elite program or elite coach. Not a proven recruiter. Not sure he’d be able to put together a big time staff. He’s a defensive guy with a terrible defense. He inherited a great program and has done less than Fritz. I get he’s the hot name but man he is Billy Napier without the recruiting chops. If BYU didn’t kick their QB off the team then Tulane is probably sitting at 3 or 4 wins and Sumrall isn’t mentioned anywhere.

You might want to dig deeper into the transition from Fritz to Sumrall. It is my understanding the portal impacted the roster and he had to rebuild the team when he arrived at Tulane.

Same with Jeff Brohm, I think he’ll get interviewed, but not sure he’d leave his Alma mater.

I’m hearing different. Jeff Brohm has talked to both Auburn and Penn State. His salary is low, and Louisville doesn’t have the money for much of a raise or NIL.

Prefer Durkin to others right now.

I don't think Durkin would choose to work with him. Not because it's personal (I doubt they even know each other well, if at all), but because it kinda sucks having some young guy come in and take your spot

OK. I thought that might be the situation, when I saw the age difference. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some specific smoke, we hadn't heard about.

I have serious doubts that we keep Durkin regardless of who is hired. Whole bunch of school are about to hire

And none of the big schools are even considering him. So does he leave for UAB or something?

Lots of big-name schools are going to need DC's as well.

If he doesn't end up the permanent HC, then the likelihood of him ending up back as the DC simply isn't very high. For one, the new HC almost never wants the former interim HC around. There is way too much opportunity for rifts to form in the roster, especially if there are players who wanted the interim HC (Durkin in this case) to be named the new HC.

I frankly don’t care if he leaves or not, but he is the second highest paid coordinator in the country. How many of those schools will match his current salary?

Just dumping random stuff here. Dilly took over a dumpster fire at ASU. Had a great year last season and lost some studs to the NFL, graduation. Is having a decent year this year. Beat Texas Tech who was top 10.

just out of curiosity, has DJ said anything since Freezus got R-U-N-N-O-F-T to indicate he wants the HC job?

he maybe perfectly content in his current role, he is being paid handsomely and doesn’t have any of the stench of the 2024-25 seasons on him

What I'm hearing from the one person I trust is there is no current leader. We're in the process of gauging interests and haven't gotten anywhere near a ranked list of candidates. They sent out feelers to a lot of coaches/agents that are established like Lanning and Freeman and things like that take some time to sort out before we begin the interview process.

Paid sites have a 1 dollar special for a week. We are going to be positive for the first week. Once the dollar special goes away and the annual fee is withdrawn from bank accounts we will go back to 1. Charles Kelly 2. Jimbo Fisher 3. Silverfield leader boards.
