Lea or Franklin would be poor picks. I would much rather have Sumrall over those 2. Cohen talked about AU fans being "shocked" at the names of sitting HCs calling him about our HC position. IMO, someone shocking is Lane, Lanning, Ryan Day, Kirky Smart, Elko. Sumrall, Dilly, Brohm, Lea, Golesh would not be shocking.

And without DP, what would his win-loss record be?

There's some chatter that Cohen isn't high on Sumrall and it was more a interview he was forced into by the PTB and his top two are Lea and Franklin. Pretty sure JF is the frontrunner at VT, Arkansas also thinks he's the frontrunner for theirs. Apparently Sumrall wants NB and that's a condition of his. IDK about Lea.

ETA: Sumrall has apparently given Cohen a EOW deadline because he has written offers from other schools and needs to make a decision ASAP and wants to start working on roster retention

Oh yeah, this is more than plausible (apologies for not doing basic research before). Deal with it! Pretty neutral on Lea, but he is 1000x better than Sumrall or Franklin. Battle between Cohen and the good ole Troy boys.

In 2012, Lea was hired as the linebackers coach at Bowling Green State University under defensive coordinator Mike Elko and head coach Dave Clawson.[9][10]

In 2016, Lea was hired as the linebackers coach at Wake Forest University, reuniting with defensive coordinator Mike Elko and head coach Dave Clawson.[13]

In 2017, Lea followed defensive coordinator Mike Elko to the University of Notre Dame to serve as their linebackers coach under head coach Brian Kelly.

Lea put on a coaching clinic on us last week. Do we not consider that a fluke and just credit his O Coordinator? Wonder what his recruiting rankings are vs others.

Durkin with summerall is a disaster. Sounds like pandering to get a big time job.

Can’t have a HC that has a different philosophy that the coordinator!

Bob Chesney?

Just saw his name on a list. Didn’t even know who that was. We will have heard every coach at some point.

As Jang mentioned above...it is

THE MOTHER FUKING Jerry R. Kill...who is the assasin that has helped Vandy do it for the past couple of years...

Have we kicked the tires? Seems very similar to Ciggneti. Takes crap teams and turns them into contenders albeit at a lower level.

Jerry Kill did. Had em in the first half and they made offensive adjustments and "killed" us in the second half.

He and Diego were a package deal coming from New Mexico and that coincides exactly with Lea winning games at Vanderbilt. The three seasons he had without a 25+ yr old QB and a really good OC are the more likely results if he were to be hired.

Kind of like Mateer and his OC from Wazzu being a package deal. They've made Veneables look good.

Nope just like Cignetti we don't kick the tires because we don't really do research. Cignetti was who I wanted instead of Freeze.

I just threw Chesney out because he is similar in nature but younger & might have JMU in the playoffs this year.

Could even kick out ACC of the playoffs if Duke wins out...JMU & USF would be higher than the ACC champ. So that would put both of them in. Of course the committee won't allow that...LOL

Some stat info

Why does everyone think he’s older

You at least have to give some credit to him -
For making Kill and Diego happen. That situation is sort of the direction of college football now.

I agree that he stepped back and allowed a new system to be implemented with has paid off big time. If Lea could guarantee to bring along Kill I would go from opposed to hire to slightly OK with his hire.

Also, I treat all the covid extra eligibility guys like Brandon Weeden

Pretty much this, yes.

Lea=Chizik when Gus was his OC.

He's a defensive coach with mediocre to poor defenses.

And if we hired Lea I would think the chances of Beck being Vandy's new head coach would be extremely high, so we would likely not being getting that offense.

Totally give him credit for getting Kill there. However, I still don't want him here, nor would I want Franklin here. I don't think either of them would be good for us. Not sure why Franklin can't win the big games when he has the tools. Wonder if it is something that a Psychologist could help him out with. His play calling is off/different etc during those games.

By 2010, I had spent the previous few years wanting to punch Tubberville, so I'll give CLR his flowers for that.
