88-90 million is what I got when I googled it. Unless there is some sort of mutual agreement, that guy is where he is for the foreseeable future.

ETA: it's $10M

That is if they fire him. Is it the same if he chose to leave? How much would another school have to pay USC if he left. I have heard it is lower than the firing buyout.

There is growing sentiment of a parting of the ways. USC is not happy with the results.

Don't be shocked if you start hearing his name pick up around openings.

Could he be Cohen's big splash?

When I first looked it up, Google insinuated the buyout was one thing keeping other teams from hiring him away, so I assumed it was similar, however, I double checked, after your post, and results said it's only $10 million, if he wants to leave.

If they pick Jimbo, 90% of this board after a day or two will be analyzing his record and telling you that it really is a great hire when you look at it. Auburn folks will fall in line for it like the good sheep we are.

Thanks

Personally I don't like Riley. He may be looking to bail. There is a lot of growing criticism from prominent USC people.

I have a sneaking feeling that Cohen is going to target Franklin and I hate that if it happens.

A coaches buyout is always different in terms of being fired vs getting a new job.

Brohm for example: if he is fired, Louisville owes him 100% of his remaining contract. If he leaves for another job. The school that hires him only owes a $1M buyout.

ETA fun fact: we paid $3M to Liberty to get Freeze.

No doubt. Just look at all the people calling for Durkin to be promoted.

I think it is USC and not him. They haven't been able to find anyone since Pete Carroll and I think it is on them. Lincoln was really good at Okie. Kiffen was terrible at USC, but he is cooking now at Ole Miss. Think about that, Kiffen doing better with a program that has not been championship level than a so-called blueblood. I think USC is broken.

I would have considered it a home run two weeks ago, but the anti-Franklin crowd did a pretty decent job dissuading me of my affections for Franklin.

Don't get me wrong, most Auburn fans excluded, I believe the hire would be well received. It would get us off the media's shite list. He can recruit. His teams are always competitive. I believe he would position Auburn to be a destination, of worth, nationally. I believe he has the star power to put Auburn on the radar of people who never would have considered playing here.

But, that damn record versus ranked opponents is so damned mediocre. If that continued, he'd be a disaster, since we play 5-8 ranked teams,, a year, typically.

I don't think he's the guy. If he was, they could have made the announcement already, and he could be out here recruiting for next year. I think Cohen's guy is still coaching, and he's in playoff contention.

My best guess on Franklin -

- Would immediately give Auburn renewed credibility
- Would immediately increase the professionalism of the program
- Would see pretty quick results and a return to competitiveness
- Would continue the trend of rarely winning the biggest games, while winning most of the games where we have more talent
- Would wear on people around the program/staff

I don't think it'll be Franklin. I don't think Franklin would be an ideal long term hire. I do think Franklin would be a good shorter term move if you could manage the costs and fallout if/when it sours.

That's basically where I'm at with it, Pettifogger. The reasons I like the idea have nothing to do with thinking he'd win a championship.

To keep the good will hiring him would earn the program, we'd never be able to fire him. We'd be forced to let him underachieve his way to retirement. Like I said, I thought it was a good idea, but I don't anymore.

ETA- Jimbo is a Nakos troll. It's lazy journalism. It isn't going to happen.

Kiffin had 55 scholarships at USC due to NCAA infractions or am I misremembering? Seemed like USC fired Kiffin about the time they were back to 85 scholarships.

Side note:

It's KIFFIN, not Kiffen.

Why would Franklin and his agent Sexton commit now instead of keeping their options open with all of the current openings and potential openings? They could be waiting to see what Kiffin does.

There are current rumors of Franklin to Arkansas. I just don't see Franklin and Sexton committing now. They are going to play this IMO. Sexton will float rumors to get potential suitors to up their package.
