Wherever he wants (see last season).
There is a little bit of a risk of a rebuild here and just general uncertainty.
The least risky bang for his buck is to go to another situation and do the same thing he did here.
But, apparently, he does like Auburn and if this hits big, it will be the best case for him.

Ohio State isn’t firing their DC this season, so it’s way different than last year.

Exactly. People freaking out like Durkin holds all the cards. He doesn’t
Not freaking out. Just interested in him staying.
Sure he has options. We may not know what they are right now.

I’m sure he does, but I doubt he has better options is what I’m saying. He may be butthurt enough to take a g5 job. Who knows

Apparently Kentucky is hiring the OC from Oregon.

Not a single p4 school mentioned Durkin. Not even Arkansas. Only Auburn’s dumb admin was actually considering him.

Funniest thing in the world would be if he went to UF

UF under Sumrall after all of the nonsense around it would be funny

Honestly, you hire someone at 1:30 in the morning, how much was he actually being considered outside of lip service?

This had been going for days and possible weeks. The contract came after all the discussions, etc..

Is this what you are hearing?
Sumrall interviewed and was Cohen's choice until he pulled that stunt regarding giving Durkin a pay raise. Sumrall wanted to interview him and when he found out what Cohen was doing he walked. It began to come off of the rails and Cohen was looking at possibly having to name Durkin as HC. Golesh had interviewed early on and had indicated he wanted the job and would take it. Cohen started feeling the pushback on Durkin and the overall bumbling of the search that he created. People were pissed and he knew it. He is smart enough to realize what was going to happen to him if he had to hire Durkin. He circled back to Golesh. Golesh told him he would take it but would not have anyone forced on him. Cohen abandoned his dreams of retention and keeping certain coaches and hired Golesh to save his arse and to keep the heat off of himself.
I believe that now you are going to see a total makeover in the coaching staff and there is at least a 50/50 chance that Durkin leaves. I also believe that a lot of players are going to walk. If it happens it happens. It is exactly what Cohen deserves because he created the mess.
So Cohen stressing keeping Durkin or any other coach for player retention blew up in his face when Golesh told him Hell No. I am going to decide who comes and stays if I take it. Cohen abandoned that plan in a hurry. Cohen was in a tight spot so he said No problem to save his own self.

Seems reasonable enough but that's still pure speculation. I've also entertained the thought of he saw what happened to arkansas and he smartly kept the whole thing under wraps.
Posted on 12/1/25 at 3:58 pm to The_SwAUggford
If it is speculation there are a lot of people in the know that are saying that is what happened.
Cohen is a snake.

I am not talking about Hoke and Mike G types or the other spin artists.

Posted on 12/1/25 at 4:19 pm to AU86
Hoke said Sumrall got squirrely on his own after hearing that certain staff members might be reporters back to the AD's office.
Posted on 12/1/25 at 4:23 pm to NewbombII
Could be true.
But Hoke is usually full of shite and thinks more about this opinion than I do.
I don't pay any attention to the spinmasters. I do not subscribe to any of those pay sites. I am too cheap.
I would probably trust Jason Caldwell more than any of them.

Hoke is the worst. He’s never right, and I believe what you wrote happened. Otherwise, Durkin wouldn’t be MIA today or yesterday. He thought he had accomplished #stopthesteele 2.0, but Cohen realized his arse and majority of the fan support was done if he went through with it.
