Someone on the CCB mentioned that Sumrall wasn't happy with the Durkin situation. He was willing to keep Durkin but, apparently, Durkin was promised he'd get to stay before Sumrall was even asked. Apparently, that set off a red flag for Sumrall. I believe that if Cohen misses on Sumrall this will be the reason. Cohen has been possessed over "roster detention". It has also been reported that he was highly suggesting that Vontrell King Williams and Marcus Davis be retained also.

Hardly any leaks happening about the coach, but this info made its way out.

It all may be true sadly but it cracks me up just the same.

Oh, thank you John Cohen for letting me stay at Auburn. My job opportunities are in short supply.

No way we announce Durkin before the IB then let him get drummed by Alabama. Fans would riot lol

I believe Mr. "I Am The Search Committee" is a world class dumbass and needs to be shown the door if he has spent a month just to come up with the interim coach. Good grief.

I couldn’t agree more, but I’m glad he said that so there is no ambiguity in who was responsible.

Same thought occurred to me as well

Here is your new coach.. he starts his first full season already with a 1-2 record in his back pocket, a beatdown at the hands of Bama, with the same roster you just fired your old coach for losing with. Hot seat in year zero

So, it'd be better to announce it afterwards (assuming he's who we hire)?

If it is Durkin and we lose to Bama tomorrow and then they announce him as coach on Sunday, good lord there will be a riot. Of course doing it today and getting beat tomorrow would not be much better.

Cohen has to be a plant that the SEC got together and foisted on us.

Leath
Cohen
Freeze

Why does Auburn go sweep up people that other schools have issues with and are ready to get rid of or no one else even wants?

Looks like we have inevitably arrived at the point in the coaching search where it goes from hope to a blazing landfill fire. I hope all this crap is wrong. Maybe it is just to get us more excited about a Sumrall hire.

I think Durkin hasn’t been announced because Cohen is waiting a final answer on Sunday morning. If those miss, Durkin will be announced sadly.

I tried to tell y’all. Anyone could see this kind of bullshite coming down the tracks from the international space station. If you’re not willing to give one of the hottest names in the coaching cycle the autonomy to hire a staff and insisting on handcuffing him to the guys you want brought in or retained, what are you hiring him for? Someone give Cohen a headset and let him call the plays tomorrow from his office.

National media now reporting that Florida had Urban Meyer call Sumrall to convince him to come. They didn't say he is going to UF, just that Meyer was lobbying to get him.

My intuition tells me he is going to UF. Way too much info leaking now.

I guarantee you Cohen screwed this up by giving Sumrall ultimatums about staff.

Fire Cohen right now. Get someone else in charge immediately, put them on a plane and tell them to not come back without Dilly, Lincoln Riley, or Bob Chesney in that order.

I think AD’s/schools making staff choices is a dumb practice if true.

When I voiced my concern about this last week, I was assured that any HC would love being handcuffed to a DC the caliber of Durkin.

Absolutely, sounds like cohen was listening to the players recruits but that shouldn’t equate to stopping your hire from making his own choices.

I guess Sumrall wasn’t thrilled with the idea of fetching coffee and doughnuts for Durkin and Faulkner.

If this hire was wrapped up weeks ago like others claim, then I can see Cohen sitting on his arse not interviewing other candidates. That’s probably why there hasn’t been any real news or leaks about other names being interviewed. If Sumrall ends up at OM or UF, he needs to be immediately relieved of his coaching search duties.
