Sumrall is the leader right now and will likely be the next coach, but DJ has a legitimate chance here too especially if the team responds to him the way I think they will.

Charles Kelly would be third place at the moment and his ability to put a top end staff together is what is getting his name mentioned. Plus he played for Coach Dye and is extremely well thought of.

I don’t expect Drinkwitz or James Franklin to get an interview.

Dillingham, Brent Key, will likely get interviewed, I don’t think Key is going to leave Ga Tech though unsure on Dilly. ASU made some promises to him that haven’t been met. Same with Jeff Brohm, I think he’ll get interviewed, but not sure he’d leave his Alma mater.

I’m actually fine with any of the top 3 getting the job. Kelly would likely retain Durk, I don’t think Sumrall would.

Wouldn’t be good to lose Durkin and his D staff.

What kind of staff are we talking about here? Any names floated around?

I’m starting to come around on DJ.

Because that's an important consideration .

Sadly though, I'd much rather have him with Durkin as DC and a top flight OC than I would have Durkin as head coach.

Does that have to happen? The new guy could come in and make no changes to that side. It would also save Auburn millions since they're all under contract.

are we going to even try and lure Key or Brohm away from their spots? Surely we could pay more.

Just give Durkin the job, get an OC in, keep players from leaving and recruits committed, profit. If it goes to,shite in 2 years no big deal. We are c,early not making a splash hire.

Durkin has been hearing his praises all season long. Dont see him not feeling miffed if be was passed over as HC.

We dont want to hire the Jacksonville State coach. See the light!

Is there a specific reason Sumrall wouldn't want to keep DJ, or is that just how people are feeling? If he's campaigning as diligently as has been suggested, it seems like he'd be open to suggestions.

I completely understand letting a new coach hire his own staff, I'm just curious.

So we’re just going to hire Sunbelt Sumrall huh

Are we actually going to offer Key or Brohm? Why wouldn’t we offer them more than they currently make. Surely we can and surely they’re worth it.

Look I’d be fine with Sumrall but at the same time, he hasn’t proven it at a P4 school even as a coordinator and has inherited good programs at both his stops. I just want us to try and get something a little more certain before gambling on Sumrall is my point, I guess.

I think he is wrong. If Sumerall is the choice DJ aint sticking around.

If Kelly is the guy then DJD might stick around but I doubt it.

That would be nice, though it rarely seems to happen with coaching changes. If we do hire Sumrall though, he needs to have coaching staff upgrades. Besides Sunbelt Billy Napier being a mediocre coach, one thing that seemed to be a huge issue with him at Florida was him insisting on bringing his crappy staff with him from ULL.

Problem with someone holding on to DJD as DC is what if he wants to become HC somewhere in 2027? Yeah it’s a one year layover I guess but I doubt he’d be content staying here if he gets passed over. I think you made this point earlier boss.

That's where I am. A short contract with all kinds of incentives.

Love the idea but who would you suggest as OC in this situation?

Boro. We will give any HC without incredible accolades an entry level contract. More than likely no less than 5 million per year with a guaranteed buyout. Any less will be an embarrassment to the school.

Freeze was still on that entry level contract and he will get a 15 million dollar buyout. The "no big deal" part is inaccurate.

From someone who has watched troy all their life Troy was very good under Neal brown and then we were absolute dog crap under chip Lindsey. When sumrall came in he completely flipped the program in 1 year and we have been back since then.
