The fact is we will. Telling recruits that your school has no problem paying a HC 7 mil a year, but for the players we must bus back 6 hours from a major college football game?

I mean they could try that. It would be much more effective just to say Gus is a lame duck because of that 7 mil a year. Are you telling me Athens and Tuscaloosa aren’t hurting for money right now?

Florida could possibly miss two straight weeks in a row over positive tests. We were denied the postseason in basketball because of the pandemic. All of the luxuries that were once considered certainties were pushed aside, and much of the revenue lost. I think recruits can understand and learn good stewardship of the pocketbook. And it was a 4 hour drive to USCe of all places. Literally a straight shot on the interstate.

Sure, all of them are, but I think these 2 have deeper pockets to help make up the difference.

And no, I don't think for a second these 2 programs are going to tell their teams we have to bus some to recoup losses caused by a pandemic. They find other ways.

We saw our AD talk about this 10% across the board cuts even BEFORE Covid hit us. I think he is just more frugal than those other ADs.

I don't think anyone should be telling recruits Gus is lame duck(bc rival coaches are probably telling recruits this anyway, and sending them snapshots of this board foaming at the mouth wanting him gone now.

Its the nature of the beast and we have had our share of this when the time is close to make a coaching change. All programs go through this turmoil.

The problem is our optics will be bad bc we could be paying another coach a huge payout to be gone, even though he has taken us to a NC, and 2 SECC, and beaten Saban 3 times.

But all of us know this Gus routine has been going on for awhile ,as he continues to try to find his offense now for most of these last 5 years.

I agree. That’s why I don’t think it is a big deal. ADAG is frugal pandemic or not. When the pandemic hits he is a tad more frugal. When the pandemic ends, he will probably start talking about building football only facilities or whatever. It’s a process, but because of the pandemic I’m sure he’s already thankful of the budget cuts he made last year. The budget was inflated and the positions in the AD were sometimes redundant. We could have been in worse shape than we are now.

I get saving money, but is a few grand on plane tickets that big of a deal? When Greene said cutbacks, I was thinking more along the lines of chopping heads in the AD and halting the football facilities arms race.

Gus should be forced to take the Greyhound to every game - maybe that will force him to resign.

If the following quote from your article is accurate then he seems to doing what he needs to be doing.
quote:

According to AuburnSports.com, inflation in the cost of running the department has begun to erode the budget surplus amassed under Greene's predecessor, Jay Jacobs, and now it's time for a reckoning.

I think I was commenting on someone else's post, but I quoted your text so I'm not quite sure what I intended. My response doesn't match your text, and we generally agree it seems. Mea culpa.

This is the least suprising news this decade, but I wouldn't characterize what's going on as "...inflation in the cost of running the department...". Try shrinking your revenue by 80%. Who fact-checks these articles? This is not even believable.

Ah, my mistake. I think its widely reported and accepted that Jay Jacobs liked his Assistant AD's and a larger department, and Greene was asked to cut that back. I don't think Greene developed a plan to take a chainsaw to the AD, but rather was given directives. That's how most organizations work, and given his lack of experience I doubt he was given much leeway. He's executing a directive.

Has anybody noticed any 2020 Auburn Edu TV Spots?

I look forward to seeing Auburn’s new commercials during games, but this year I’ve only seen the opponent’s commercials.
