I've read up on the games but it still pisses me off to see it.

It will be bust then. Pearl is who we need. But Auburn does not have the balls to hire him

How much further would our basketball program have to sink to reach rock bottom?

I'd say set the record for consecutive conference losses.. which we are like 6 or 7 away from doing so.

As far as the program hitting rock bottom, I believe this is as far AU as sunk in a long long time. It's been a steady decline since 2003.

Scarbinsky chimes in.

I've also noticed a change in tone from a few of Barbee's remaining supporters. I'm not near as confident that 5 SEC wins will save him as I was last week. I just wish that when a change is made that someone other than JJ would be in charge of making the new hire.

It is just depressing to follow Auburn basketball these days. No reasonable fan expects us to be competing for championships, but the state of the program under Barbee is unacceptable. Each coach has done worse than the one before since Cliff Ellis.

Who knew that those good seasons in the late 1990's would be the high point of Auburn basketball for the next 15 years?

We built a beautiful new arena and proceeded to suck all the life out of the program at the same time.

I don't see why with our athletic budget and facilities we can't make a serious attempt at making the NCAA tourney and NIT nearly every year. Ya there are off years but 3/5, especially in the SEC which is hot garbage usually, seems reasonable

The last few hires this athletic department has made have been strong, imo... obviously Gus was a homerun.... but Golloway was a good hire, as was the new softball coach (won national titles at Az State)... the women's bball coach was also a solid hire.

He'll employ a search committee, I'm sure... and base his decision off their recommendation. Regardless, I have faith auburn can make a decent hire.

Even Barbee was a "great hire" at the time. I mean, he was an assistant on ultra successful UMass teams under Coach Cal, he was an ace recruiter for super successful Memphis teams with Coach Cal, then as his only previous HC job he took UTEP to the NCAA tourny in 4 years including back to back 20+ win seasons.

We hired an ace recruiter, black HC for basketball with a track record of success. That was supposed to be a recipe for success. I remember people being worried about him jumping ship to another school after he "did well at Auburn"

FIFY.

The AAU thing is a big deal. Auburn's compliance Dept still does not allow him to recruit AAU players like he want to. This was the reason he did not sing his contract for almost a year.

Regardless Barbee is an awful coach. 4 years and I still have no idea what system he run.

Auburn needs a guy that runs a system and recruits to that system.

What is the deal with this? frick Auburn compliance. We are the only team who even gets close to caught cheating and have a publicity nightmare that still lasts over it. UMiami and Ohio State get straight up caught and still don't have the stigma we do

My understanding is that the NCAA ruled the head of the AAU in Alabama to be an Auburn booster. Even thought he is not. This banned Auburn from recruiting AAU in Alabama. So Auburn has choose to stay away from AAU players altogether. Add in the Scarlet UA that keeps up away from Nike camps. And you see the results.
