Bumping to new page:
Bruce Pearl changed our culture. Harsin has people demanding that we go the other way. That much is clear.

Bruce Pearl changed our culture.
See now I am confused. I was told on this board that Harsin was changing the culture
I really wished you guys would get on something and stick with it

He is as his own player said it, the “chemo” to the culture. He meant that in a positive way, but the result is nothing positive about it.

I never rooted for chemo.

Great article on Barfield by Phillip Marshsall on May 3, 2022. Shug and certain boosters (sound familiar) wanted Paul Davis but new President wanted Barfield. Then came 1980.
The list of players Barfield and his staff signed represent some of the best to ever wear an Auburn uniform.

Every damn coach that ever got hired by any team said they were going to change the culture... Put in people that wanted to be there. Players that loved teamX. Be more physical. Have fumn. Bla bla bla
There is just so much that a in coming coach can say.
Its always just coach speak. People just need something to hold on to. With Harsin, it was the culture thing

I wasn't around. But surely our fans didn't act as entitled to success as they do now.
Right., because we are supposed to just enjoy sucking arse at football, while we watch our neighbors 2-3 hours down the the road (UGA/Bama) recruit and win championships.
Idiot.

Once you suggested it was the fans tearing down the program brick by brick, you became a nod and smile kind of guy.

You might be a good fan but you are easily the worst auburn poster. You put words in my mouth like it’s your job. Get off my dick loser. Go outside sometime

Stop bleeding from your vag just because I use your own words against you. I am happy to be the worse poster. I’m at least consistently correct.
Who was tearing down a program?

Second time you've been incorrect. "It's just a sport" am I right?
Brick by brick?
The program isn't torn down. We will bounce back. But loud mouths such as yourself, broadcasting how shitty our AD was, how shitty the boosters are, how shitty the board is, and most of all, how deplete of talent our team is... will do nothing to help build us back up.

Who are you talking about? Certainly not me.
And who is broadcasting anything not already known? Get a grip of reality.

Auburn in 1981 under Dye was showing improvement.
"I know it hurts, to put everthen ya got into something and you just come up short. Some of ya think you lost today, but theres a whole lotta folks out there still cheering that think a little differen about you, and Im gonna go back out there and thank them and youre welcome to join me".

That quote was right after the Tennessee game, wasn’t it?
Completely captured the kind of coach Dye was in the early days. We need another guy like that.
Unfortunately I’m not sure one exists.

I was going to school then, stayed, along with the whole student section for that 42 nothing arse whipping, cheering the last few scores as Tenn romped us and the team just quit.
I was at LeMans apt complex for a huge beer blast on a Friday before a game and a lot of the starters were there drunker than Cooter Brown....with a noon kickoff looming the next day.
When Joe Cribbs got caught smoking spliffs at Sewell Hall (the ath dorm where the team lived) so they put him in Mag Hall to keep a better eye on him???? Whereby he was caught smoking again so they put him back in Sewell.
And I was there at my frat house when our starting off tackle came by to visit. Asked him how the new coach was gonna work out and he said you wouldnt believe it. At our meeting he told the starting DT that he had to run stadium steps for missing curfew and the DT said he wasnt doing it, and Dye said "Youre right you aint doing it cause you aint on scholarship anymore, coaches help him clean out his stuff".

Showing my age. I subscribed to Sports Illustrated back in the day and remember this article from 1976.

I put in bold comment that has stuck with me:

quote:
The only head-coaching job Doug Bar-field ever applied for was at West Point in 1974. He did not get the job but said he did not expect to. "What would they do at West Point with a slow-talking Southern boy?"
The opportunity of becoming a head coach had apparently passed when he was suddenly faced with the offer to succeed Ralph (Shug) Jordan, the resident legend at Auburn—25 years on the job, national and conference championships, bowl games, etc.
Everybody who knew anything about coaching told Barfield what a fool he would be to follow a legend. "What you want," he was advised, time and time again, "is to be the coach who follows the coach who follows the legend." Barfield listened to the good advice—and accepted the job. Last fall, as a lame duck, Jordan had his worst season in 23 years: 3-6-2. Auburn football watchers said the talent he left behind was "the leanest in years." Take it away, Coach Barfield.
