This is the most important thing. What did the 2010 and 2013 teams have in common? Studs on the Oline that pushed the other team's Dline around. Oline recruiting has been lacking lately. You give Stidham a stud Oline, and he will get it done and win a championship.

You give Marshall 1 good tackle and he will win a national championship for you. If the defense is not a total shite show

Trying to isolate variables in this discussion is interesting but kind of fruitless. Nick Marshall was Nick Marshall because of his talent and the talents around him - and that extends to the defense. We know that to be the case because the defense influences the dynamics of the game that have an effect on the offense. Our defense now is maybe as good as it's been in 14 years (debatably better) and that has a significant influence on the offense and what components make it effective. I think a case could easily be made that a pocket passer with the ability to stop the clock in a passing game gives the best chance of overall success because the defense can rest.

Laniers and I agree a lot.

Hahaha so we just need QB God, or Nick read option guru to run an offense? Name a pocket passer we’ve had that comes close to either of them?
Let’s see what we do with Stidham this year. He should be comparable to Nick’s talents from a different perspective.

Were those OL’s that talented or did the unusually gifted QB play create blocking angles that made them look better than they actually were? I realize NFL production isn’t a perfect way to judge talent in college but along the OL we haven’t had much real NFL potential in a long time.

Offense is better with a runner but you can't put some average joe back there just because he runs.
1. Athletic Beast that can sling it
2. A runner with a strong arm but some accuracy issues
3. Pocket passer with a cannon with limited mobility
4. Pocket passer with no mobility
5. Running QB with little throwing ability

This.
But again, we can’t pick and choose what recruits we want sometimes and we don’t know how those recruits pan out, even if highly rated. We have no say in the matter. It all comes down to what Gus is going to trot out there.

Who needs read option. Just let Nick do Nick.

Honestly this pretty much sums up my thoughts

And did you see how huge those running lanes were? My case in point. Look what Stidham can do when the line blocks:
And here is your future that you want Lanier:

He can throw. He can shag some nice tail as well but he is a slow clumsy white boy.

Nah. I know you like Marshall, but Gatewood is more like Cam. So it will be like this, and not just an SECC:

I can watch those GIFs 24/7 and never get sick of them. Pure beauty. This year is going to be interesting (#TeamStidham). Everyone, please remember. He had not played a snap of football for forever. Young underclassman to boot, starting in the SEC, O-line issues, blah, blah. He should be MUCH improved with receiver chemistry and timing and a year of SEC experience under his belt. He will not be sacked anywhere close to 11 times in any game. We could (COULD!) have a really, really powerful and potent offense this year. Our D should be stout - at least as stout as last year. Bama and UGA on the road sucks, but if we beat UW and win one of those two, we are in the playoff. I think we take one of those two (no idea how it happens, but I think we will be in both games at the end and we pull one out) WANT to and will believe CGM learned from LSU last year. I don't think we drop any other games. I think we beat UW and roll from there to Amen corner. I think Chip will be better this year as well. I am cautiously optimistic that JS steps up and leads our offense this year, despite our weaknesses and deficiencies. I think he gets 'er done. 'Ships bitches. WDE.

GOD I loved Nick Marshall....I never understood the Jeremy Johnson circle jerk. Nick was a Magician...he was special with the ball in his hands

MW needs and deserves quality reps, not just garbage time. CGM should, but prolly won't, toss the adage "if you have two QBs, you don't have one" out the window. CUM did it at UF. Stidham and MW bring different threats to the table. If CGM were smart (we'll see), he and Chip will have specific packages for both and will play both in most games. Red zone, 2nd and 3rd and short, 4th and short, etc. MW should definitely have chances to go with the ones in a variety of situations this year. I think we will see more of MW in '18 than most of us think at the moment. Gut feeling. In any case, the present and future at AU QB is as bright as it has been in.... got damn forever. What a got damn dilemma! It is going to be a really fun 2-3-4 years fam! Has anyone else noticed that we have gone from 2 or 3 stars under Tubs (love CTT BTW) to 3-4-5 stars? Anyone remember? I was back home and at Papa Johns when I heard on the radio that Tubs was fired. They interviewed his wife. I was shocked. Still like Tubs though. Fear the thumb.

While I am drunk posting, I really, really want to see Shaun Shivers play. I grew up watching Little Train and followed him with the Chargers. Whether SS redshirts or not no one knows, but I really want to watch him play with the ball in his hands and make people look stupid, and that goes for the other track stars and athletes coming soon. Stars and rankings (mostly) aside, I think CGM and staff have done and are doing well recruiting. I am excited. War Eagle.

Garbage time would be fine if it wasn't constantly read-option-give read-option-give read-option-give read-option-give read-option-give read-option-give etc. etc. etc. ad infinitum ad nauseum.
