There are some indications that Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart has slipped down the list, though he certainly should not be eliminated as a possibility. He still has the enthusiastic support of former coach Pat Dye

WTF? Why would we hire him. Saban is the real DC of that team. Saban calls the plays. Smarts job is to make sure the personnel groups are correct, which he screws up about once a game.

Don't sleep on Arkansas State coach Gus Malzahn, either. He remains a strong candidate.

if we hire Malzahn, I will have the strong urge to drink bleach.

Frick that. Our RB depth is garbage is right, that is directly his fault as the recruiting coordinator. Plus the fumbling problems of Mason and Blakely prove that Luper is not that good of a coach. Fumbles can be corrected by a good coach.

The depth thing you claim blame on him although we were thought to be in great shape before Yeldon screwed us and JR's transcript situation came about. Mason has a fumble problem? I don't think so. I only remember him fumbling 1 or 2. Luper has had a 1,000 yard rusher each season he's been here. He's also got Mason looking good despite not being highly recruited. I would be fine with keeping him.

Cant find any stats, not wasting time looking at game logs. He had at least 4 fumbles this season. Probably as many as Blakely. Def fumbled in the Clemson and Bama games.

1000 yards is an average of 83 yards per game. That is not that great.

Mason is average at best. Ask yourslef this, which team in the SEC would trade thier starting RB for Mason? Not many, and none of the other Big 6.

Lol at the interviews. We know who we want. It's just a matter of Jacobs and Co. having the balls to offer him the job.

I'm assuming it's Petrino and it's already happening. Announcement before the weekend. Probably just figuring out the best PR strategy.

Has the job been posted on AU.edu yet? I'm sure we can make up a couple of good resumes to send in.

I guess being pretty much a consensus 4 star and a 247 composite top 300 player in the country doesn't cut it to be a "highly recruited" player

Mason will be a top 5 SEC back next season with Bobby guaranteed.

Even though I believe we hire Petrino and fully support it, I'm still scared the more I see Gus being brought up. I will lose hope in our program if we hire him

Malzahn had no discipline skills

Gave Dyer a shot at Arkansas State even though he had been caught doing drugs MANY times at Auburn

Recruited Zeke Pike and Kiehl Frazier

Terrible evaluator of talent

No it doesn't. Highly recruited means a lot of top schools are going after you. It was us and ole miss recruiting him and he was a fall back plan for us.

It is when most of them have been splitting carries with one or two other backs.

Most of the big 6 have really good running backs. He could play for Tennessee and Florida maybe.

I'm not saying he is great but he is a pretty good runningback.

KScarb article mentioned this great little tidbit

quote:

Make no mistake. Petrino isn't the only good coach available. He isn't the only coach that could go to Auburn and win because every coach that goes to Auburn wins. Every Auburn coach since Pat Dye has done more than one of the following: Won at least 11 games in a season at least once; taken the Tigers to the SEC Championship Game; won the SEC title; gone undefeated.

Is anyone else of the opinion that, if it is Bobby, it's always been Bobby, and we were never considering anyone else; if it wasn't Bobby, then it was never going to be Bobby and this was all a smokescreen?

I feel like this is the sort of decision that would've been made long before Chizik was ever actually canned.

I feel like once Bobby left Arkansas before the season Jay Jacobs and Pat Dye sabotaged the season somehow so they could hire Bobby again. BVG was also in on the shenanigans.
