and i assume this is because of his reputation.

which is exactly why i'm bitching about it. Auburn fans/adminstrators are so damn concnerend with avoiding anything to feed negative attention. Our fans and adminstrators are pushovers.

At levels like auburn these coaches aren't trying to mold young kids into well rounded young men, the kids come here to win, get on tv, and hopefully get to the NFL. I'll take a coach who hired his mistress any day over a good man like gene chizik who's understanding of how to win is beyond flawed

Can't say I disagree. Doesn't matter, though.

I dont think it is that black and white.

The Administration knows that if they hire BP, there will be a fracture in the fanbase.

Whether or not some feel that the reasons why are valid or not, is irrelelvant. It will happen.

The fans that dont care about reputation will not have a problem with early struggles. The ones that do will be even louder with their distain of him and that will fall on JJ and Pres G.

Those two know they have to make a hire that will be successful on all levels. BP is not that hire.

All I care about is getting Chizik out. I don't care who we hire out of all the names tossed around except for Kirby Smart.

And nothing personal to the folks who would refuse to hire petrino based solely on morality grounds, but i wouldn't mind losing that portion of the fanbase.

no doubt...but they're the ones deluding themselves with "family" talk and "mold young minds"

Also they're likely older and will die before me so gotta chalk that up as a win for my side...not to mention are probably against fun.

That was the second game of his first year, but point taken. They really do not play much quality in the MAC, but looks better than some other up and comers, assuming we go that route.

It's almost not even worth arguing over. BP will never be the head coach at Auburn University. It just won't happen. It's frustrating that we're still talking about it.
quote:

Because no one in position to make that move will do it. They can't. Bobby fricked himself into this, though.
FYI, a lot of people are jumping on his bandwagon. Per JGT:
quote:

I've heard even more about Petrino lately. The grassroots support for him is growing at an impressive pace -- among fans, PIPTTA and near-PIPTTA people. Petrino is on the verge of getting in the picture at Auburn.
He wants to be at Auburn. He changed agents to prove that (him and Gene Chizik had the same agent). JGT then went on to say that, if Bobby Petrino is the guy, things will be wrapped up pretty quickly. He then said out of Bobby Petrino, Gus Malzahn, Kirby Smart, and Jeff Fisher, Bobby Petrino is the #1 candidate most likely to happen.

People that don't want him because of his past better get a fricking clue. The dude is a top 10 coach in college football. He can coach with the best of them. His 75-26 record proves that. I'm willing to give him a chance at Auburn, and winning cures everything. It'd be a HUGE mistake to pass over him.

And I've been calling for Bobby Petrino to be hired since the beginning of the season.

I've said all along that BP is in the same situation as Saban was. His ambition and ego made him think the grass is greener on the other side. Now that he has made his mistakes, he's probably hungry to prove himself as a coach and person. It could be a situation where he wants to come in, win at AU and retire a tiger.

Who, as a realistic candidate, do you expect this to be?

I know what you are saying and BP would piss a lot of people off, but at the end of the day everyone would come together IMO, and I do not think it would take that long.

i would hope that would be the case but its a hell of a gamble.

1. Some folks may not come together. You may feel it is dumb but they love AU too and have thier reasons.

2. Maybe he doesnt win. And every loss would justify the poo hire in the eyes of those who didnt want him in the first place.
