No, he is not. Good coaches develop both sides of the ball. He cant recruit or develop defenses.

I'm fine with folks thinking this, so long as they're not basing it on morality...are you basing it on morality or football acumen?

it has to be based on morality. those bashing him for his lack of defense don't seem to be willing to consider him even with a top notch D coordinator

I tend to agree. I do not see how you can otherwise say Petrino + top notch D co-ordinator would not win.

My distain for him is 25% morality and 75% he cannot recruit or develop defenses.

You make a valid point of him with a top notch DC. Ask you then, why not get another offensive coach that has a moral compass and pair him with a top notch DC?

we have a moral coach right now. And yet the players are in constant trouble. I'm over the family/god thing auburn rah rah shite. I'm to the point of not giveing a shite about what the coach's baggage/morality is so long as he can keep the players on the straight and narrow and not need a damn security team to do it.

He's a top 2/3 coach in the SEC, there aren't many offensive coaches we could get that good.

I find it hard to believe that he is the only offensive mind that would come to AU if AU invited them.

To me going this route and only going after BP is lazy.

I don't know why you changed that, he's a top 3 head coach in this conference.

1. He is not in this conference
2. A top HC can develop both sides of the ball. He has proven through out his career in two BCS conferences that he either cannot or doesnt care enough to.

Sorry, but a top HC wins games.

I don't like BP either, but to argue that he is not a good college coach is kidding yourself. Look at what he has been able to do in college football at school that are not traditional powers. Give him a high profile school (and a discrete blonde) and he has annual top 10 written all over him.

1 conference championship (Big East)

0 SEC division or conference championships

We can do this all day. Im not interested in convincing anyone he is good or bad.

AU can do better.

Well if winning the SEC is going to one of our requirements for hiring a coach we're fricked.

He is great on the offensive side of the ball and calls a brilliant game no doubt.
