Why would Franklin fight through the inevitable struggle at Auburn given how tired and worn out he likely is at this point? He couldn't even fight at Penn State where he had the program rolling. He immediately rolled over and lost the team.

This is called a straw man fallacy.
What is a strawman fallacy?
I've already explained that head coaches have a shelf-life, and very few are able to maintain relevancy after 15 years of wear and tear, which is exactly where Franklin is at. The guys who make it 20, 25 years are your legends and true outliers: Saban, Bobby Bowden, Spurrier, etc. James Franklin is not one of these guys.
UCF thought they were getting a "safe, proven hire" in Malzahn. Wrong.
Miami thought they were getting a "safe, proven hire" in Richt. Didn't really happen.
Texas Tech and Cincinnati thought they were getting a "safe, proven hire" in Tuberville. He failed badly at both schools.
Even Mack Brown only had limited success at North Carolina in his second tenure there. The fact that he won 10+ games in 9 or 10 straight seasons at Texas didn't matter.
You are also seeing Bill Belichik fail miserably at North Carolina in real time. Sure, he is an NFL guy, but shouldn't he be able to at least coach X's and O's to some degree of success? The game has passed him by, and no amount of Super Bowl rings changes that.
This actually makes complete sense once you really think about. These guys have to work ~60-70 hours a week to run a football program. How long do you think you can realistically do that before your focus and drive naturally diminish? Keep in mind that the meta strategy of the game changes every ~5 or so years, so they also need to bed able to constantly evolve and learn new terminology.

I am at a loss of suggestions if we can't hire from Indiana, GT, or Louisville- teams usually inferior to Auburn
We damn sure could pull the hunchback from UNLV. I’m willing to forgive him making up rumors about Cam, and I can get used to his wife frenching all of the players as long as he wins.

It's a long way to the top and i don't think Dan Mullen is a bad place to start

Kelly has more hardware than either one of those guys.
Schumann and Kelly have the same amount of national championships as on the field coaches...

Im already on record as saying Brent Key is exactly the type of coach Auburn needs right now.
Hearing him talk before the season sold me on him and he has his GT team, with many more hurdles than AU has, in the top 15 and in the driver's seat of his conference.

The biggest issue I have w HF is that he did the same as Gus. His O staff are his buddies that he can control and not the best hires. And his inability to evaluate QBs along with Austin is the heart of why his offenses have failed. I would only allow HF to stay if he hires a very good OC and give him total autonomy like he did w Durkin. And that is the only way a top OC would come here

Same. Austin and Thorton both should’ve already been fired, and Nix should only be a RB coach.

In this weeks all new episode of Coaching Matters (a lot!) we have the curious case of the worst SB winning QB ever turned worst Collegiate head coach ever.
Dilfer fired Sunday. Memphis was picked to win by 24. UAB is up by a touchdown in the 4th.
See you next time kids!
