There is a certain thing you have in you.... that when the game is in the balance and the pressure is at its highest... you become the best version of yourself. You ignite. And when it's winning time, you come up CLUTCH.
You can see it in any sports, It's Andres Iniesta with a World Cup winning goal in the 116th minute of the 2010 final... It's Big Papi vs the Yankees in 2004, It's Michael Jordan in the last 45 seconds of Game 6 in the '98 Finals. It's Tiger Woods on a Sunday. It's Tom Brady. It's Kobe Bryant. It's Cristiano Ronaldo. It's Derek Jeter. It's Joe Montana. It's Joe Sakic. It's Steph Curry. It's Didier Drogba. It's Wayne Gretzky. Its Arike Ogunbowale. It's Kyrie Irving. It's Kirk Gibson. It's Eli Manning. It's Ray Allen. It's Sergio Ramos. It's Larry Bird. It's Magic Johnson. It's Dame Lillard. It's Mariano Rivera. It's Patrick Mahomes. Patrick Roy. It's Robert Horry. It's Tom Glavine. Clutch.
It's Cam Newton in 2010. It's Nick Marshall in 2013.
What it ISN'T... Is Payton Thorne. With all due respect... We've had opportunities in close games over the last 2 season where we could drive to tie or win games.

Whatever it is that allows you to make WINNING PLAYS in WINNING TIME, he just does not have.

Those "mistakes" were plays called by our coaching staff.
End of the half we burn our last time out without saving one for the kicker. We had one last shot before the kick....and its a pass play three yards short of the goal line????? We rush the kicker out there and probably fck up his head for the season.
The wildcat. Freeze said we had to put a lineman in there because Frazier had a broken foot and he made a mistake and the guys could not pull. You have four other TEs, none of them were coached on the play? Why didnt you run Jarquez anyway.
Jarquez is eating them up and you have less than four minutes......and you go to a five wide out set for the pick six? Run it and punt if it doesnt work, defense was playing lights out, Demarcus Russell had that running QB hog tied.
Someone said it best. Venebles is a great defensive coach, he knew when Freeze got ahead he would start getting "cute" and they would get their chances.
This is all on the 7 million dollar man.....he needs his own culture council.

Yep. I can't disagree. He isn't the most talented qb but what really holds him and us back is that he's just not a leader. Anybody can lead in practice or when things are going good but it takes a different type to face adversity, turn to the team and say hop on guys we got this.

We just don't have a 'good' P4 QB but aside from a few bonehead calls, I actually agree with Freeze in that our gameplans are solid and put us in positions to win. I don't know about "the best I've ever seen" but solid.
Feel like we are beating a dead horse with Payton, because we have enough data to know what to expect.

Very true. Big time competitors want the game in their shoulders, Thorne doesn’t. It’ll be better for everyone when this season is over.

What if we had ran a little jet/pop pass where we threw the pick 6?
I did not get to see the play bc I still don’t have power, but I remember Venables baiting Tua into some bad throws in a nattie game. He teaches well at morphing presnap look into something else.

Is all it’s going to take to make the fanbase happy is a generational talent that pans out? Because that’s what this post makes me think. And it is unrealistic.

A gamer who does not turn the ball over and understands situational football would be fine.
Any of Brandon Cox, Daniel Cobb, Ben Leard, Barrett Trotter, Neil Caudle, Sean White, and Jeremy Johnson do not throw that pick 6.
Even Jonathan Wallace manages that situation appropriately.
Throne is snakebit. I’m not sure whether confidence and competence can be coached up enough to get us to 6-6.
I thought he’d be ok, but he’s struggled with the game on the line.
I’d be 0-5 as the starter, and I don’t want to fight anyone at Sonic.
I think Venables out coached CHF when it mattered. He gave them calls where they could win IF they executed. Their offense did not turn the ball over. We did.

I could also add the games where he just played like dogshit from the jump, like LSU, A&M, NMSU, Maryland... but look at the FACTS.

Robert Horry? Nick Marshall? I could name DOZENS of guys that weren't stars but were clutch.
Derek Fisher, Wayne Chrebet, Mark Lemke, N'Golo Kante, Eddie Rosario, John Paxson, Paul Scholes, Jason Terry, Ronde Barber, etc... I can name PLENTY.

I understand idea of this but in reality we don’t have leaders in the individual position groups. Maybe the OL and WR room does. The rest don’t.
You need your experienced players to sometimes get on some arse on the sidelines.

We run a high risk offense with an average QB who didn't come up as a read/option guy. The amount of interceptions we've had through two years with either Ashford Thorne or Brown is consistently high. Freeze has noted on more than one occasion that "I should've had more run plays" or something along those lines.
Our line has slightly improved on the whole, but when you empty the backfield and go five-wide, you are adding a lot of risk to the QB, no matter who that is. Against OU, late in the game, it wasn't necessary and that's on coaching.

I disagree, Coach. Asante leads the LBs. Deal leads the TEs. KLS leads the WRs. McLeod leads the Edges. Keionte Scott/Jerrin Thompson leads the DBs
The QB play in clutch time is NON EXISTENT.

If that’s the list of leaders then you see the issue. No leaders.
I included the WRs as having a leader and the OL. The rest of the groups don’t. Experience doesn’t mean leader.
