Telling y'all, follow HS basketball recruiting at your own peril. Don't get excited about any of these kids until they are enrolled at Auburn University and you'll be better for it

So weird. I had just updated my son about this Hawaiian 7 ft center who had previously committed to us and today he decommits. I jinxed Pearl I guess.

I noticed he started visiting schools. If he is in Ohio now will be interesting where he goes.
These guys that commit and only have had contact thru online access are going to change their mind a lot I feel, once they take visits.

I'm surprised Canty is still in good enough standing with the other former players to be included on the team. Especially with Bowers.

Grad transfer PF who was here one season 4-5 years ago. Didn't get a lot of playing time, more of a defensive guy iirc

Tolentino de commits

Message boarders are saying it was a mutual parting. With Walker coming in they are thinking we focus more on strong wing players because Flanny and Jabari won't be here after this year. Also saying since Tolentino has moved he hasn't progressed quite like everyone thought. Tolentino has a lot of upside but still has a lot of work to get there.

That sounds weak IMO. So we can't concentrate on a center AND wing players? It's quite possible we lose Kessler, Flanigan, Smith, Williams and possibly Jasper so we will need replacements at ALL positions.

And now we have no commitments for 2022, so hard to believe Tolentino was not needed.

And so he has not progressed like others thought? What does that mean? Usually, it does take a big man at that size to continue to develop. And it didn't phase us any when we signed Akingbola. He definitely is a work in progress even 2 years now at Auburn.

I don’t know why it’s so hard to believe Auburn moved away from recruiting him. A lot has changed since October of last year.

I get what you're saying but I take it as a good thing if we feel comfortable enough to move away from a 2 year project. Auburn bball recruiting has changed dramatically since stretch got on campus. I feel like this is just a product of having a successful program.

This is very true. We have also realized if we strike out on high end HS talent we can replace them with elite transfer talent at the last minute. Very possible that Akingbola is the last true "project" we see and guys like Flanigan and Cambridge are the absolute floor of who we will sign.

BP is recruiting at such a high level right now that I wouldn't be surprised if all of our 2022 guys are top 75

Its not hard at all...but why is it so hard to believe the kid also just changed his mind?

If you watch him play I personally think he's a stiff. He hasn't really developed. We're in high cotton now. If we were recruiting him hard and he developed, he would have visited. Pearl could get Akeem Olijowan to visit and he has no eligibility. AU punted.

Am I crazy for thinking Thor will be an NBA All-Star at some point?

No. His ceiling is sky high. Just wish we'd gotten a little more time with him.

The newest BB practice update is informative. Jesper is not on campus yet, and both of our other new guards are about two inches shorter than listed. This is not suprising, and Pearl has always taken undersized guards and tweeners at the 3 and 4 and has gotten a ton of production. I think one of his main recruiting measures is how productive a player is, and less on measurables like height and length. He's never been at a top 5 program, and that's really what you have to be to sign NBA length at the guard position. Cliff Ellis also had good luck with signing tweeners at the 3 and 4 at Clemson and Auburn but wasn't as consistient as Pearl.

Apparently Sharife got a standing ovation at his pro day which is virtually unheard of. Was supposedly an incredible showing. JT Thor getting glowing combine reviews as well. It’s probable both go higher than anticipated

Shariffe couldn’t miss from 3 lol

Same for Thor in his workout.

Chuck Person has an Auburn voodoo doll. I’m convinced of it. Look at Shariffe’s 3 point shot though. He is 6 foot and maybe jumps an inch. Not a quick release either.
