I think it is more of a 3 and 4 with Cardwell as the 5

I think Cardwell will be a bench guy for most of his Auburn career. Bruce’s offense is at its best with shooters at all 5 spots.

Hey we don't know yet how good Cardwell's outside shot is. He didn't even get to play his senior year, and with covid, I think his development had to have slowed down too.

And don't forget he hasn't missed a 3 pt shot yet.

One question I had, since I have not looked at Jabari SMith film. Is he considered a PF?

Bruce mentioned one of our weaknesses was that we were not powerful or strong enough around the basket, and we needed more of that with conditioning (THor), and bringing in a more powerful forward/center.

Smith will play the 4 for us. Could be a small ball 5 if he is ready defensively but we shall see.

He’s 6’10 (and could easily add another inch or two), isn’t really a guy you want dribbling a ton, and is at his best defensively when around the rim. He’s a true 4 that can play a stretch 5.

Ideal lineup for next year as it currently stands:
1-Green
2-Jasper
3-Flanigan
4-Smith
5-Williams

IF Thor comes back he replaces Williams

I personally think Williams is the starter at the 5 regardless. He was our most consistent and well-rounded player last year imo. He is a great passer for the 5, has a good outside shot, can rebound/ score around the basket, and is a solid defender. More than anything I just don’t think you can replace that experience.

I know Thor’s potential way exceeds Williams, and either way they both probably get similar minutes, but Williams has just proven to be the veteran glue of this team. Either way somebody very talented is coming off the bench next year.

People in 247 are saying that Kessler is expected back at UNC according to their board. Hooks strikes out again if that's true.

I don't really put much stock in the predictions of the choices coddled recruits. The guy is in college and being recruited again. I don't think Williams didn't play him for some nefarious reasons. He was probably just like Caldwell in that way and needed some refinement to see more PT. Purifoy was a high 4* recruit at AU and never moved his feet either. It happens. I'd be fine with Garrison Brooks and his lack of upside. He'd be 20+ minutes and 8 points and 5 reboounds. I'd rather we miss on Kessler.

Yep. Hooks post certainly didn’t age well with Kessler deciding to stay and now scoot on the fence deciding between us and the g league.

We don’t have an elite shooter but we’ve got some very good pieces. I don’t think we would have considered the 18/19 or 19/20 teams fantastic on paper. In fact, most of us expected a step back in 19/20 and they ended up having a better win%.

All that to say, I’m willing to call this past year an anomaly considering all of the young teams really struggled, and say I have not clue wtf next year’s team will look like

I think our roster is fantastic honestly. Look around the league and even the country and then look back at ours. Good mix of talent and experience, and decent continuity. I’ll say the ceiling could be 2 or 3 seed dependent on 3 things:
1. Smith being a top 3 freshman in the country like we think he is
2. Flanigan making another noticeable leap
3. Thor returning or another good piece to round out the roster

Last year was definitely an anomaly and even it could have been much better with better injury luck. Pretty comparable to our 16-17 season

Jeff Lee says UNC’s new head coach and couple assistants visited Kessler while Kessler on vacation in Destin Florida to give their pitch.

Our pitch was via zoom but it was the final pitch he will hear before his decision.

Lee says he has no clue what Kessler’s decision will be.

Jboy says after Lee’s post (coincidentally?) that the decision is “coming down to the wire” but he’s not changing his pick to UNC.

Having a face to face seems to carry more weight than another zoom call.

Ofc it could also mean UNC is more desperate. Lol.

I say Kessler pick both schools and play half of his time w UNC and the last half w Auburn.

Disappointing news is probably easier to give via zoom than face to face after the coaches traveled for hours..
