Video of our team putting in hard work before the SEC tournament. I love seeing the fire in their eyes.

Watching highlights of SEC Tourney last year. Feels like we are hitting the same vibe as the CG last year if we continue to play like we did saturday.

I wouldn’t go that far. Samir has an impenetrable confidence and the closest to ice in his veins. J’von played really well last game but we have seen many games where he couldn’t buy a bucket.
J’Von has not been consistent throughout the year, but has been incredibly clutch down the stretch of games. The LSU game alone should stand as evidence of his ability to hit big shots. But he also hit that ridiculous layup with the contact in the final minutes on the road against Ole Miss when we were down 2 and needed a basket. He got his jersey ripped off of him against Arky and then went off the last 5 minutes to spark that comeback on the road. Against A&M he hit a ridiculous 3 towards the end of the game which was the only reason we had a shot at the buzzer.

All that and you didn’t even mention his clutch free throws against NMSU in the tournament last year

He has had good moments and just had another moment last game. I’m just pushing back against the notion that he’s been an ice in veins player for us. He shoots 38% from the field, 30% from 3, and sub 60% from FT. I’ll gladly say he has done his part on this team, but I don’t want to get to the point where one good game rewrites whats been going on all season. Fact of the matter is if the shot clock is late, I really don’t want him shooting a 3, still. I’d rather have Samir or Okoro.

That was his best game all season. He was very clutch then. I don’t know if he was just unaffected by the atmosphere unlike the rest, but he had a different gear than the rest of the team.

I agree with you. It’s just crazy to think of the number of big shots he has hit this season, when for the most part he has not been an efficient offensive player for us. Outside of a few games where J’Von was really on fire (Mizzou), his best moments have come on a few big plays late in games. But if the game was truly on the line I would prefer Okoro or Samir get that shot.
Based on his performance last year in the tournament though, there is still reason to believe that he might be able to be a more consistent weapon for us in the tourney. We will probably need him to if we want to make a run.

Bracket Matrix link:
LINK
Average bracket seeding is 5.14 which is third out of the four projected 5 seeds.
Losing to a quadrant 3 A&M at home hurt a lot but we made up some ground with the quad 1 win at Tennessee.
We are in the position of needing to win multiple SEC tournament games to improve our seed to 4 since neither Missouri nor A&M are considered quad 1. An unfortunate scenario of a quick loss to one of these teams will nearly assuredly drop us to a 6 seed.

Agreed.
So it’s basically:
1. Lose and drop to a 6
2. Win 1 and hold at 5
3. Win 2 and quite possibly improve to 4

Based on what the selection committee said & did last year what we do in the SEC Tourney is not likely to help or hurt our seeding much. They said last year they only used conference tourneys to decide bubble teams & didn't look at seeding at all based on conference tourneys. I think it's a stupid & lazy arse take but it is what it is.

We were a 7 or 8 headed into the SEC tourney and improved to a 5 last year

Winning the championship didn’t matter to them. But getting there did.

iirc they said they don’t take into account the championship games

Unlikely. Our NET through our SEC Tourney run actually dropped from 17 the day before the Tourney started to 18 when the committee did their selections after we won the SEC Tourney.

I don’t think they’ve explicitly said this... it’s just understood that a game that finishes Sunday afternoon 1 hour before the selection show isn’t going to have much bearing on the seeding... there’s not enough time to wait that long.
Wouldn’t surprise me if we see the tournament moved up a day for a Saturday championship game in the near future.

It's only us and the B10 that still play on Sunday IIRC
