ESPN on whose UNC's "Potential Pitfall" to the Final Four from an ACC assistant

quote:

North Carolina
Potential pitfall: Auburn
Why: "Auburn's going to be a tough out for Carolina. I don't think Carolina is that gritty or tough. Coby [White] is tough when he gets going. But I'm talking in terms of guard play, pick-and-roll, read-progressions, feel. He takes advantage of spacing. When you're playing Auburn and the kid [Jared] Harper, he's a killer. He understands what's on the line. Bruce [Pearl] will have those guys ready to play. They're going to play with tempo, they're going to shoot 3s. The challenge is, will Auburn rebound well enough? I think that's a pick 'em game. I don't think Kentucky is as gritty and tough as Auburn is. Coby is usually the most athletic guy going, and the way they play creates pace. But I don't think when it's [crunch] time, in the half court, gotta figure it out, they're as tough." -- ACC assistant coach

Additional comments

quote:

"They're getting more production out of more guys now," one SEC assistant said. "[Danjel] Purifoy is making one or two extra 3s a game now. [J'Von] McCormick is giving them more production. Everyone knows it's the [Jared] Harper-[Bryce] Brown show, but they're getting more production out of all their guys. They're settling into their roles. We know Bryce is gonna shoot, we know Jared is gonna shoot, but McCormick is coming off the bench, [Samir] Doughty, [Chuma] Okeke is producing, they're hard to beat. It's obvious, but when they're making 3s, you're in trouble. I just feel like now, they're getting a high level of confidence and more production out of more guys."

quote:

"They make you play like them," another SEC assistant said. "We like to slow it down, but when you play against them, they speed you up. They gamble, but they make you play how they want to play. They do a good job of converting off turnovers. And it's not converting layups, it's converting 3s. That's what really kills you."

Nugget from a “What we are hearing” article from the 247 sports team: - Bruce told a small group of reporters Tuesday that he loves Auburn and is a great fit for himself and his family. And both sides(Auburn AD and Bruce) believe in each other. Bruce is only focused on the season and negotiations will begin soon after the season. (Marcello)

Bruce is about to have a big pay day come up from Auburn. I hope we can up his buyout as part of the negotiations as well. My take is that he needs to be making top-3 money among SEC basketball coaches, then we can put performance incentives on top of that. This is in addition to a major commitment to any upgrades the program will need going forward.

Bruce is in legacy building mode. I see him getting back modest raise, long term deal (7-8 years), and a shite ton of money for assistants and amenities.

UNC's Nassir Little did not practice today due to "flu like symptoms" and is listed as questionable for tomorrow's game

UNC this tournament is only running 7 man rotation due to injuries. Having a sick/limited Little would be a huge blow in what likely is going to be an up tempo game.

There is a chance Leaky Black, a UNC FR who has been out a month with an ankle injury, may be able to contribute more but he has not been a factor since December

That would be huge if he couldn't play. He's been a beast on the offensive boards in the tournament.

I’d be shocked if Little doesn’t play, just a hunch

If he is only at 75-80%, that is a problem for a 7 man rotation

Especially when you consider Garrison Brooks and Luke Maye have at times found themselves in foul trouble.

Roy Williams won’t be shocked if he doesn’t play:

quote:

Williams wasn't optimistic that Little would be able to play against the Tigers. "I can say it's hard to make a 180-degree turn because there's no way in the world he could play if we were playing today," Williams said Thursday. "He didn't feel good last night. He was running a little bit of a temperature, running more of a temperature this morning. He didn't feel like eating. I didn't even bring him over here to the arena with us. ... He's sitting there [at breakfast on Thursday] and he has his plate in front of him, and it looked to me like it was hard to pick up that fork, and the last time I looked it wasn't very heavy."

I think we should intentionally go at Maye to try and get him some early fouls. He is a key part of this team.

serious question,

if this is something contagious do they risk putting him on the plane with the rest of the team? How is this sort of thing usually handled, give him a mask or something?

You don’t have kids do you??? :) I wouldn’t think masks alone would be sufficient. Anything he touches could be harmful to others.

maybe he'll give the whole team the flu.

The part about UNC not being that gritty made me excited. Maybe their guts haven't been tested like ours have. I'd be hard pressed to believe any team is closer than ours
