From Jason Caldwell practice notes.

The standout in the scrimmage on defense was redshirt sophomore linebacker DeShaun Davis. He scored two touchdowns, one on an interception and one on a fumble recovery/return. He also had two big hits and a good special teams play. He was a player who is getting a fresh start with a change in the defensive coaching staff. Last year he was not in the playing rotation.

Only on defense. They caught one but the offense did not throw any

QB's live and other tidbits

Deshaun Davis showing out had a couple of scores on an INT and a fumble recovery...two major hits, and looks to be making a move for a starting role at LB.

JF3 is looking to be as fast or faster than advertised and is sitting three still learning the offense.

Jamel Dean is making a move to start over Holsey. Some think he can be a special player

OT transfer James has a consistency issue as of right now

Kozan looks to be back to full form before his injury and playing well.

Close race between Robinson and Thomas. Both have showed improvement over last year. Robinson is practicing at a much higher level than last year.

Really isn't a lot that has come out from this scrimmage

How hard is it to learn run play, run play, throw it deep on 3rd down?

I only report the news. I leave it to the rest of you to interpret it for yourselves.

Glad to see Deshaun Davis having success. I became a fan during his recruitment and the positive attitude he kept being injured his senior year. Seems like a good guy.

If Dean lives up to half the hype we are going to have our best CB duo since like 2007 or 2008. I love the depth we should have in the secondary.

Carlton Davis
Tray Matthews
Rudy Ford
Jamel Dean
Stephen Roberts
Nick Ruffin
Josh Holsey
Tim Irvin
Jeremiah Dinson (hopefully)
TJ Davis

And then add the good vibes with Javaris Davis & John Broussard and we might actually have a unit that doesn't completely suck

Won't get too amped until I see a pass rush tho. If we find any semblance of a pass rush I think secondary can have a big year

I've read a few 1st hand reports from the scrimmage about the qbs and this is what I can gather. Franklin has a long way to go passing the ball. He can throw the bubble screen but didn't complete anything further than 5 yards down the field. He had some ugly passes and had 1 int. Johnson looked good running the ball and didn't come close to throwing any int's. He was a little inconsistent throwing the ball down the field but looked comfortable in the pocket. White didn't get as many snaps but looked good for the most part. He did have an easy int dropped.

I talked to 2 different people that were at the scrimmage and they both said JJ looked the best out of the qbs

Well, it's more complicated than that when you add in the meerkat element and gib it to me on the hup-hup, not de hup

Auburn is fricked.

ETA: I still wish Auburn had offered Jerod Evans, but I think he only had one year left to play. I could be wrong.

I loved reading that.

I was worried he might never be the same. Hope he gets better than ever.

Lets just hope Jeremy Johnson is ready to be the player we hoped he would be at the beginning of last year...and tbh, he just may.

While unlikely, it's possible...the only bad thing about that is the inexperience at wide receiver. Our younger players seem to be the more talented, and our older players have been inconsistent or are limited talent wise.
