I didn't say they are the same player.

Well hells bells, I don't want any four star WR to have a Trovon Reed career at Auburn. Why is Slayton specifically singled out?

Could not agree less. Flip those two and you're may have a point. Sammie went off in the 2014 Iron Bowl and was a perfect compliment to our offense.

I wasn't trying to compare the two... no doubt Coates has more God given ability... just that he never was able to put it all together (part of that was the circumstances he was placed in).

I don't think Davis is a game changing type talent... he's solid.

What would you have considered "put it all together?"

Seems incredibly high and probably unrealistic expectations drive your point home

Edit: grammar

Become a top 10 college WR... he probably had that kind of talent, but never developed into a true game changing type guy...inconsistent hands, sloppy routes, mistimed jumps... The system had a lot to do with it.

Playing WR just never came natural to Sammie, like it does for other guys. It still doesn't now.

He was recruited to play both cornerback and wide receiver by Auburn.

Don't kid yourself. Slayton was brought in to be a WR.

And Rudy Ford was brought in to be a RB. Yet he has become the best S we have had in a decade.

We don't have a wealth of experienced WR's to be switching positions. Apples to oranges. Rudy wanted to get on the field quick so he volunteered to play defense. Slayton can get on the field this year as a starting WR if he earns it.

Maybe, but he was recruited as both. Auburn only flipped him from Georgia after offering him as a receiver. He was originally offered as a cornerback.

He was recruited solely at DB while EJ was DC. When EJ left, we recruited him solely at WR.

either you misspelled Zac Etheridge or you got REALLY high before you posted that. that one play alone knocks Rudypoo out of the top five.

What the hell are you even talking about? Coates was one of the most dangerous deep-threats in college football for 2+ seasons; a player who blew the top off of several defenses which won us games, and who's presence put fear into defenses even when he wasn't catching the ball or being thrown to. What games did Duke Williams change with his possession receiving? Honestly? The team won less games with him on it than it did without him. Why do Auburn fans continue to overrate that idiot? Dude wasn't even close to "elite", please stop trying to paint him as some sort of "game changer". If he was a game changer, he wouldn't be on his way to being undrafted, even with his retardation off the field.

Looking back, pretty clear I've undersold Coates... he had several great games in 2013 (Arkansas, mizzou, A&M) and 2014 (bama, ole miss, LSU)

We don't beat Kansas St without DW... we probably don't beat Arkansas without him either... He also made an unbelievable catch against ole miss on the opening drive that set up a TD.

williams only played in 9 full games, but had major impacts in most of them.

Samie Coates was a gamechanger, he just never could put it together as a reliable receiver. Very often, he disappeared in games. Duke was a lot more reliable than Sammie. Yes, we probably lose the Kansas State game without Duke. Hence the term, "gamechanger."

Duke wasnt a game changer. He was a good possession receiver with good hands and no wheels. Game changer? meh

My bad, I didn't realize a good forty is required to be called a gamechanger...
