It's because Jamal Sanders is upset that JF3 is going to be our QB. It has been written

You left out "3rd" from in between "our" and "QB".

Shoot, I am a serial upvoter and I'm not scared of a slot receiver.

I don't at all. We really need some of these freshman to step up.
I'm not a fan of the WR corps either. I don't have an issue with any of the 3 being starters, but way too much inconsistency to be our starting 3.
Marcus Davis- Pro: Veteran/Intangibles Con: Athleticism
TSteve - Pro: Athleticism Con: Inconsistency

I don't know why you completely write off JF3's QB ability. JF3 isn't Jason Smith, he has QB attributes and quality QB coaching development along the way. Sean White/JJ (lulz) may beat him out (they won't) but it would be due to SW/JJ's QB ability and not JF3 being an incapable QB.
If JF3 plays at WR, it is to get on the field like Ryan Tannenhill while at Texas A&M.

I wanna see Franklin perform in obvious passing downs... if he can be effective, then I'm on board.
No one can deny his athleticism and speed... health will be another issue.

You don't think Marcus is athletic?! He may not be big, but that dude is a freak in open space and can turn on the burners.
Posted on 3/18/16 at 12:17 pm to JamalSanders
Neither do I.
Auburn, even with talented freshmen coming in (we have to remember that they are still unproven), has the weakest wide receivers in the SEC, IMO. If they aren't the weakest, they're close.
That is why starting Sean White would be a mistake. Our running game already suffers from a non-mobile quarterback, and the passing game will also suffer no matter what due to the lack of talent out wide. John Franklin III makes most sense here because the threat of him running will open up the read-option for the running backs.

Yeah, not sure where he got that from.

What has he done to suggest he is a "freak in open space" or "turn on the burners?" He avg 6 YPC last year and has a career long catch of 27 yards.
I'm not saying he is a terrible athlete, but he isn't an elite athlete either.

His punt return game has always been so close to being tremendous. More than once he has pulled some really shifty moves after underneath catches. You really gonna quote his YPC with the offense we've had? Come on

Regardless, this argument is erroneous. What I was saying earlier is that if our receivers play to potential, they could be really good. Marcus has been a beast since his freshman year, but hasn't had anyone worth two shits to throw him the ball since. Tony hasn't had much of a chance to shine, and he has all the tools to be a good outside guy. Jason might be the most talented guy on the offensive side of the ball, just got to put it all together.

He catches the ball so that makes him our best receiver.
I mostly agree with you. He's an unintriguing slot receiver. I like his athleticism (or to be more accurate, it's never caught my attention in a negative way). He's just short.

I agree with both of these.

If you change it to "it isn't anything that has caught my attention" you get

Which gets you my original statement

I was trying to get at that he isn't an elite/go to WR. He isn't going to change games for Auburn. To be that at his size, you either need Desean Jackson athleticism or hands/openness of Julian Edelman.
TL;DR Marcus Davis can be productive but he isn't a guy who will elevate beyond the play of the QB

In what fantasy world have you been living in? He has been average/solid but not a beast. Nothing wrong with that, but it isn't inspiring seeing him with Chris Bosh's cousin TSteve and Jason 'I got nothing clever' Smith

For a guy who is a "freak in the open space" and can "turn on the burners" of course I am. Davis has 6, 7 , 9.5 YPC during his career.
Compare that to our last solid but not "freaky good" slot Quan Bray 12, 8.5, 8.5 YPC

He definitely changed these games, both were clutch catches in tight contests that, if I recall correctly, were game sealing. Davis may not be the most athletic or productive player but he makes it count when he gets oppportunities, which to me have seemed rather few and far between - maybe just because he's not the typical "elite WR" bodytype.

There's a difference between "game-changer" and "clutch."
A game-changer was someone like Sammie Coates, Amari Cooper, AJ Green, Julio Jones, Randall Cobb, Mike Wallace, etc. Even Ricardo Louis to an extent.
Marcus Davis is "solid" in my mind. Nothing special. He will make plays at times, but he isn't someone you design an offense or even play around.

Agree 100%. But our WR play has been so bad, he seems very good. Hopefully, some of the new recruits can come in and shake things up. If we start Tony Stevens, even though I like him, we are failing
