Is Eguae injured?

No we are just really thin at DE. That's why Ken Carter was moved there. I imagine coaches just want Carter to get some reps at that position hence why you see him listed today and not Eguae.

I think it's a given at this point that they aren't set, but he's just putting who is running with the 1's on any given day. When Robinson, Dismukes, etc are anchoring the OL, that's the 1's for that day.

Today Coach EJ installed a 3 man defensive front where the other DE becomes and outside LB.

Dee Ford is the guy playing the outside LB position. EJ says he does well dropping back against the pass.

Quotes from EJ

"Jeff Whitaker has been the best DT"

"Ken Carter isn't a natural DE, but he's doing well out there"

"I think our Corners have been the most pleasing position Also Justin Garrett has been our best football players since day 1. Whitaker has moved up to the #1 DL "

"JaViere Mitchell has looked good at Will LB but is out a week with a concussion"

"Robinson Therezie plays better near the line of scrimmage. CB didn't come natural for Therezie, but he is the perfect fit for the Star position"

we literally heard the same thing about whitaker last year... needless to say, that didn't pan out.

The whole team is a wait and see approach, but especially a to-be senior like whitaker who was supposed to be a solid DT last year after slimming down.

I don't understand how these guys are getting injured in practice. I don't even think they hit. They need to stretch more

I read that Bradley came in a little overweight, but has done a good job of conditioning. He's been with the team all spring. I don't know if he's been fully practicing, but I've seen him in pictures and videos of drills since the first practice. #50.

IIRC, bradley's been pretty consistently running with the two's at DT... Blackson has been injured.

Si Senior. The staff hopes he makes big strides in the final 5 practices.

Interdasting. He should definitely be ready by the fall if it's just a weight / conditioning issue.

The perfect fit: Robenson Therezie thriving at Star safety as Auburn DC Ellis Johnson makes more moves
By Brandon Marcello | bmarcello@al.com

AUBURN, Alabama -- Robenson Therezie has apparently found the perfect home in Auburn's defense.

While the Star safety appears to be setting into his new digs, some are still trying to find the right spot in Ellis Johnson's defense in the final practices of the spring, which has already featured several position switches.

JaViere Mitchell is one of the key figures still trying to find the right fit, and a recent injury is not helping his progress.

Therezie, a cornerback by name only, moved to the safety hybrid position in Johnson's 4-2-5 defense earlier this week. He's mostly working with the second-team unit behind Justin Garrett but it appears the move will stick through the summer and into the fall.

The 5-foot-9, 202-pound Miami native looks more comfortable near the line of scrimmage, Johnson says, as a blitzer and speed rusher in the scheme, which is all about zone coverages and speedy linebackers. He also has the frame and weight Johnson looks for in a hybrid safety.

"We move him up to Star and all of a sudden we're blitzing him off the edge and he's covering underneath instead of deep zones," Johnson said. "The things you see with your eyes, the techniques, the reads and reactions, are different. He's a speed player. He's a contact player. You like to have a 6-1, 215-pound Star but right now he fits it perfect and I've really been tickled to death with his progress."

Therezie's move to Star arrived on the heels of some injury news earlier this week, when Mitchell suffered a concussion in the Tigers' scrimmage Saturday and played only 26 snaps, Johnson said.

Mitchell moved to Will linebacker, one of the two inside linebackers in the scheme that rarely play outside the tackle box. The 6-foot-2, 211-pound redshirt freshman is not expected to play in the scrimmage Saturday but could be available for the A-Day scrimmage on April 20.

"You can sometimes tell when a player has five or six reps that this was the right move or we've got a work in progress," Johnson said. "It was obvious when he moved from Star to inside at the Will 'backer it was the right move. He was reacting to things quicker, seemed a lot more comfortable and at home there getting lined up and reacting to plays. I think it was something we needed to do because the hybrid position was one we had to find an answer."

The answer at Star safety appears to be Justin Garrett, whose performances this spring have impressed coaches and players alike -- even when they're not prompted to talk about the junior.

Johnson has installed a dime package and another with the defense sliding to three linemen in an effort to help the offense and give coach Gus Malzahn and his quarterbacks a different look in live situations. Auburn is nowhere close to installing its entire playbook, especially with the sub packages, Johnson said, but the Tigers sure do love having two guys to count on at safety and linebacker.

"Having a guy like Garrett and Therezie, I mean, those two guys can run," Johnson said. "They're as quick and as fast any player I've had at hybrid and they're both physical guys. They like contact. Cover skills are good. We're going to continue to make them better. But those two guys, I think, are really going to help us in our third-down package."

This seems to be the new quote among the coaches.

It's kinda funny how two of the most undersized guys on defense (Garrett and Therezie) are flourishing in Johnson's scheme and could never see the field for BVG. Heck, Garrett was runnign scout team and therezie was moved to RB last year.

I think we're going to be pretty flexible under Johson... something that'll come in handy vs. spread offenses like A&M, Ole Miss, MSU, Wash St., etc. For whatever reason, VanGorder seemed pretty rigid in his approach and scheme.

I thought Garrett should have been moved to S after he got to Auburn. He was maybe 180 coming in his Fr year.

I think Garrett, Therezie and King will make a nice 3 deep at Star.

Hmmm... Anyone thinking what I'm thinking? Is Garrett too small for LB? Would be awesome to have he and Therezie on the field at the same time.

I wouldn't mind seeing these two at LB
