So essentially... we have the same starters on offense as last year.

JGT is saying Cass McKinzy is too inconsistent play to pay. Holland seems to be pulling away
They may need to find out the hard way that Holland is a non-baller.

We have ADay and a lot of spring, summer and fall practice. At the very least Cass will figure shift out if coaches don't realize hollan blows

I'm sure this has been discussed but why does Holland suck so bad? Obviously I've seen him suck it up this year and I hate the guy as much as y'all. But if it's tackling that can most likely be taught. If it's speed and acceleration they can work on that. Maybe the coaches might be able to develop him?
Edit: Or maybe he's a lost cause and we should dump him in the river.

He's about as unathletic as they come.

Wasn't he a 4* with a good offer list back in 2010? How is it that everyone graded him too high and continues to grade him high? He must have something we're not seeing

That pretty much explains it Joey.

And even when he does tackle them, he doesn't tackle them.

quote:Yeah, he was a 3 star throughout nearly the entire recruiting process, and then he got a late boost to be a 4 star. I have no idea what recruiting analysts, coaches, and fans saw in him back when he was in high-school (admittedly, I thought he would be pretty good at Auburn). He was an Under Armour All-American and everything. He tries hard, but damn, he's just so fricking terrible. Slow, smaller than listed, unathletic, etc... If he gets the nod over Cass McKinzy we will be in trouble.

Side note: It's good to hear that Kris Frost has his outside linebacker spot down and Justin Garrett has the STAR position down.

I have heard players on the team flat out say to him "Jake how many tackles you going to miss this game?"

Gus Malzahn expected more out of his players Wednesday, the Auburn Tigers' first day back on the practice fields following a three-day break.
"It was sluggish. There's no doubt," the coach said.
The Tigers looked sluggish early in practices, and the pace apparently continued when the doors were closed to reporters Wednesday morning.
...
"We've still got deficiencies and we still have a long way to go, but we improved up to that point," Malzahn said. "That's why today, as a coach, you want to keep improving and we didn't do it today. That's definitely something that is a red flag right now."

Joel A. Erickson ?@JoelAEricksonAU 3h Gus Malzahn: "We had one of our normal practices. This is probably one of the first times I wasn't pleased with the overall effort."

So it looks like Justin Garrett has a pretty good handle on Star. Where's that leave Brandon King? Does he have the speed to play SS with Whitehead at FS? Or is he just gonna be a depth guy? What about Khari Harding/Mackensie Alexander? All three guys seemed like Star prospects when they signed, but it'd be nice to get a safety out of that collection too.

We're gonna need more than one hybrid guy ready to contribute... I think Harding will be a true safety while Alexander may get a shot at the star position, but neither will be ready (IMO) to be contributors on defense. It wouldn't be a surprise to see both guys on special teams coverage units, although both could probably use a redshirt year.
Alexander played OLB in high school but is built more like a safety... will be interesting to see where he ends up with some development and experience.

Star will most likely be Garret and King. King could still beat him out when he gets here, so don't count him out. It's a very physical role for a guy that's not quite as big as a normal LB, so there is a chance of injury. I think they'll want to have at least 3 guys they feel comfortable with that can play there.
None of them are on campus yet, so it's too early to worry too much about where they'll play. We'll know by next year, if not the end of fall.
