In your opinion what sort of record or results would be satisfactory for Hugh to remain at the helm for 2026?

The one and only NIL collective at CAL is holding their own athletic department's feet at the fire by insisting nobody to donate to the program until the athletic program gets what they want: which is Ron Riviera named General Manager. I am guessing BeatBammer will get a kick out of this one. We lost to these clowns to boot.

Its nice to have some competition at various positions instead of just warm bodies. Some of those high flyin receivers best get right or they may be sitting the bench or in the portal.

8-4. However I believe anything better then 6-6 there is no move made. Thus far through spring I’m leaning toward predicting 9-3 as the season record.

Hate to burst the star gazers bubble but Turner is playing much better than Perry Thompson. Thompson has improved and at least knows the play book for the most part but Turner is gonna be 2nd string behind maybe both Coleman and Fields. Depends on how much Turner can learn at each position.
Perry gotta find some consistency.
The young linebackers look good. No specific player but as a group better than most expected. Not sure we will go after a transfer.
The DL is fighting hard and having success. But there are 3 OL starters out. Me personally I would still like 2 inside DL just in case some of the sophomore’s and freshman hit a wall.
Murphy at OL is really good. But and there is always a but he’s going up against some young inexperienced guys a lot of reps. Still gonna be a battle in the fall for start at RT.
To many good things about the DBs so far. Playing fast and physical. Defense is very basic now. So everyone is playing fast and free. The weeding down will happen the first couple weeks in the fall. Extremely deep but very young even our guys with experience.
Alston is RB1 and it’s not close. Expect 3 running backs to be targeted for 10-14 carries/catches in a game. Running back by committee. Coaches still waiting for Cobb to become more physical. I expect Cobb to RB3 at best.

Thanks Corch.
Kind of disappointed in Thompson. How difficult can it be to learn receiving??? Its not like they are asking them to solve quantum physics questions.

He played in a very basic offense. They were terrible. Lots of screens, pop passes, and just run deep for Perry. He was a giant compared to high school DBs. 5’9” 150 lbs corners trying to tackle and athletic dude at 6’2” 220 one on one.
I still think he can be a very good WR but he’s still learning how to really play the position. He is transforming his body as well. He still needs to lose about 10 lbs in my opinion.

Why don’t they convert him into a tight end? Will be good value for the NFL too.

He’s fast enough to be an outside WR and he’s not a great blocker yet. He doesn’t have the length to translate to the next level at TE. He’s only 6’2”
If Perry is the disappointment from his classes WR group then it was a great haul.

Yea I think Perry is progressing. It sucks it isn’t going faster and he holds some responsibility there, but he seems to be on the right path now. Is what it is with him. He is showing progress. May just be a guy that takes time.
Fortunate for us Turner is coming in ready to go. He was one of my underrated steals of this class. Was always a kid that just got it. Great problem to have. Will push Perry and competition is never a bad thing.

Curious about Derrick Smith, have heard nothing about him?
Posted on 4/5/25 at 7:08 am to trinidadtiger
The Smith brothers don’t arrive on campus until summer. They weren’t early enrollees.
Derick outside WR
Erick possibly a transition to TE
That’s my best guesses

Have you considered the fact that maybe Sam Turner is a future superstar? I have heard mostly positive things about Perry, but I think we have the wrong mentality based on past trauma. Turner is the more natural receiver and it's not close. That's not an attack on Perry, but I think he's more of a 3rd-4th year success guy. (In my opinion) our talent might be progressing to a point where the 1A guy is just amazing NOT the best of a bunch of duds like in years past.

Speaking of 1A guy, I heard Alvin Henderson is making a strong case for RB2 behind Alston.

RB2 will be the transfer back

I think Sam Turner might just be good. He just kind of got overshadowed by being in ATL around so many other players, but anyone who watched him saw something.. You could tell he was a guy who really took things serious and put in the work too. I think Carsyn Baker will be that guy this year in ATL this year.

Thanks for the insights fellas, much appreciated. Sounds like the receiver room will be absolutely loaded.
And it is nice to know if one person disappoints at a position.....we are dead in the water, like years past.
Much much competition across the board makes for a very good spring.

Just some tidbits off various podcasts:
aday/scrimmage sounds like they focused mostly on running. To your point Corch it sounds like Damari....and then the others. Durrell Robinson is out with injury.
Boy Joiner's name comes up a lot with Coaches and players.
Mason Murphy was asked about who is toughest on pass block, he mentioned Crawford....and Joe Phillips hmm.
Defensive backfield young but absolutely wicked.
Several podcasts saying the interior DL may do quite well. Jourdin Crawford is definitely going to play early and often (ya hear that Vodney, your teammate is calling you).
Lots of hype about Deuce, but Arnold is the real deal. He reads quick, decides quick, lets it go, and very accurate.
Just confirming a lot of what you are hearing Corch.
Ah the optimism of spring.
