I disagree with you frickers. Our struggles in 15-16 can be contributed to Chizik's shitty recruiting in his final years. We played for a title in 13. Was top 5 in Nov in 14. Should have played for a title this year but our insane schedule killed us. I am not sure what else you guys need. We don't have the pass Bama does. But no other team is the SEC does. Unless we cam hire Saban, we won't do better than Gus.

Yeah I’m sure our recruiting class will be awful next year thanks to the article

From the linked article:
quote:

Kentucky, Missouri and Vanderbilt don’t care enough about football to get upset over the sport; those seats stay relatively cool regardless of who sits in the seat.
So, schools who are currently paying their HCs $3.75 million, $2.72 million, and $2.3 million respectively "don't care enough about football to get upset"? I'd be willing to wager that at least two of those schools will fire their current HC between now and 2020.

Meanwhile, if Orgeron goes 7-5 next regular season he is gone. Period. No way is his seat not the hottest in the league going into 2018. In fact, the miracle win over AU is the only reason he's still coaching there now.

Like it or not, Gustav will be running AU's football program for at least the next 4 years, unless he violates the NCAA compliance clause in his deal.

My biggest issue is the team not finishing.

2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017...Auburn was ranked top 10 with a chance to make noise. They made it to the BCSNCG and lost with 13 seconds left. The teams were on the cusp of making the CFBP in the following years, only to eventually collapse.

And win the fricking bowl games. They matter, too.

The funny part is a number of recruits have commented on fact that Gus's contract makes them feel much more comfortable knowing who will be at Auburn. Bo Nix specifically mentioned it when asked about his commitment. But ya this one article is gonna frick us for next year's class

I do believe the distain over Gus' contract by the rank and file fan will be an issue for Gus going forward. IMO it is a lose, lose for him.

We expect to beat uga and bama. Gus is 2-3 against bama and 2-4 against uga. The amazing thing about bama is that is better than our history with them and they are way better at this point in time than we have ever faced. If he was 3-4 against uga (i.e. not allowed one of '15 or '16 to get away) He'd also basically be on par with our historical record against them. Still somehow every Auburn fan ignores the basics of that data and feels like we should be in a better spot against them than we are now.

If we beat uga again next year, will our fan base give him credit for going 2-1 against uga teams that arguably were better than his team?...It would be the opposite side of how we trash him for going 0-2 in '15 and '16 when we were arguably a better team?

I won't argue that.

I think even high school kids understand the fundamental difference between a 7 year/$49mm contract and an internet article.

I wasn’t saying the negative recruiters were going to be using this specific article as recruiting fodder . The perception of instability is what they will use, definitely if we go 0-2 during Amen Corner this year.

I do, too. But you have to think the disdain is because the contract is among the most lucrative in the country despite having a coach that annually loses 4+ a year and helped keep us out the playoff with the LSU debacle.

He's right. Leath and the BOT are 100% responsible both on and off the record. We had a lame duck AD who wasn't involved, and therefore no fall guy. It would take an epic collapse for him to be fired. Gus has 4 years at minimum.

Well then Gus locked Auburn down and not vice versa.

SDS is a trash site with an obvious negative bias toward Auburn. If anything that new contract makes him one of the least likely to be on the hot seat this year or next.

I wish this wouldn't have even been posted to be honest.. All they are trying to do is make it look like there are problems in Auburn.. our coaches constantly being on the hot seat hurts us far too much to keep playing into it over and over again.

Do you really believe we would have gotten into the playoffs at 10-2? With no SEC title? If so, pass what your smoking.

Two words- Jay Jacobs

He fricked us over one last time before he left. Should have let Gus walk.

Please tell us that you really are not that damn stupid to really believe that we would have made the playoffs with a 10-2 record after losing the SECCG.

If, by chance you are that stupid, which team that made the playoffs would we have replaced?

I’m not going to absolutely say we would’ve been in. But it was a possibility. Our two losses would’ve been to UGA and Clemson...two playoff teams, and the former was due to a mulligan and a key offensive member being injured. I believe the committee would’ve taken that into consideration.

Definitely Bama.
