so we're to the "glad we're not getting that garbage" stage of coping with losing a recruit?
Posted on 12/12/12 at 9:25 am to piggidyphish
I'm not at that stage. I don't give a frick about him having a kid, especially since he is in her life. I was personally just talking about some red flags that I have noticed about Reuben the last few weeks. Can't speak on behalf of Austar, he was being a boob.

i'm lazy and don't want to go looking for these. What are they?

1)As a recruit that has never played at Auburn, he tried to use his leverage to save "Troop's" job.
2)Someone that was supposed to be the leader of this class decommits because a position coach on the other side of the ball is fired.
3)Committing to a school based on a position coach at for a position he will never ever play.
4)According to AUstar, Reuben may or may not be a fan of rubbers, regular or latex.

one, two and three seem to be iterations of the same thing.
I don't blame him for leaving because his recruiter left. wish it hadn't happend and i hope he comes back (not saying we should have kept trooper to appease him either). I certainly don't think he has character issues because of it.
Most of this stuff sounds like sour grapes and one step away from 'his offer wasn't committable'

Nah not necessarily character issues, more like leadership issues. So you don't think it is wrong for a recruit, someone that has not done a thing on the field for Auburn to publicly say if his recruiter is fired, he will decommit? And you don't think that shows lack of maturity and potential lack of leadership potential?
Did those actions anger me and cause sour grapes? Sure, but I think there is more to it than that. And like I previously said, he is a great talent. But if you told me we could get Trey Johnson back and tell Reuben to follow Trooper to whatever school he lands at, I would pick that.

I expect 18 year old kids to do what's best for them

Nope...he had a relationship. I'd prefer a kid (to use the cliche) that committs to a university nto the coach but i dont' think it says anything less about him if he committs to a coach, espcially the one who has been recruiting him

Yes i think 18 year olds are immature and no i don't think it shows a lack of leadership. are you saying he should have been a leader of the recruiting class? I find that concept to be odd in and of itself. Or are you saying because of this if we had kept trooper and he came to auburn he wouldn't be a leader on the football team?

I'll take them both and have no judgement about why either one of them cooled and then came back.
I just think the follows the same natural progression it does every year. The kid is the best thing ever when he's on board, as soon as backpeddles he's got "issues" and "we may be better off."

If he signs with AU, he signs with AU. If he doesn't, he doesn't. frick it. Life goes on. On a scale of 1-10 in regards to what all Gus has on his plate right now in terms of getting this shite show turned around, Reuben Foster is a 1.

From everything I read, it seemed that he was a leader of this recruiting class. And now people are having to try and pull him back in. That combined with him publicly challenging Auburn authority is what makes me question his leadership potential and question if I want someone like that leading our team.
Basically, I am just tired of the high profile recruits that come in thinking they are something special before they even play a college game. I want players that aren't satisfied with their highschool career and keep their mouth shut and work hard.
I see your side to everything as well, it is just my opinion on the matter. Good to have a solid discussion

Agreed. I've never suggested making some grandois move to get him back, just find it typical that he decommitts and all of a sudden he's got "issues."

yea but with how fickle 18 year old kids are i just don't see that carrying any real weight nor do i think it's his responsibility to stick wtih us for a reason like that if it's (in his mind) not best for him.

Couldn't agree more, but we pay for rivals and scout and 247 to follow these kids around to get sound bites and make them out to be bigger than they are.

Also couldn't agree more. Would be the ideal recruit.

Carl Lawson is someone that seems like the ideal recruit. That is why I believe he is our most important recruit to hold on to, with the exception of maybe JJ. Carl is a huge star, but he is not into playing the whole recruiting game. He is also nowhere near satisfied with his accomplishments thus far. I can't wait to see him in college, hopefully in an Auburn uniform.

I see Lawson as our most important recruit as well
Just a gut feeling but I think he will end up being the most productive
