quote:

Tracy, who survived an alleged gang-rape in 1998 involving four men — two Oregon State football players — on the Oregon State campus, will travel to the Plains to address the Auburn football team Oct. 11.

quote:

Most recently, Tracy spoke to football programs at Oregon State, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Baylor. Tracy said an Auburn official initially contacted Baylor to obtain her contact information.

quote:

“I think (the timing) says this is important, we want to talk about this, we want to bring you here, because they’re seeking me out,” Tracy said. “They don’t have to have me, and I don’t take that for granted.”

On each visit, Tracy typically does two things: She shares her story, sparing few details, then encourages players to get involved. Her goal is to inspire bystanders to intervene if they see or hear something. She also asks that team members hold each other accountable.

quote:

Tracy has more visits lined up for the fall, but is excited about her upcoming trip to Auburn, which will mark her first appearance at an SEC school.

“Whenever I go to a school where football is life, I think wow, this is a place where we could really have a profound effect,” Tracy said. “These kids, because football is life, these kids, could really change their communities in a really profound way. I feel like athletics and college campuses are so influential. They have this unique ability to influence their campus and communities and their states because all eyes are on them.”

I like it. Proactive and positive move by the Athletic Department.

Nice work, Jay Jacobs.

I like this move. Seems like she has a good message too, that teammates should want to intervene and hold each other accountable.

This is a pretty powerful story about her rape and facing the coach that let the guys off with a slap on the wrist.

Sad that we are in a place in America where we have to teach adults that rape is illegal. What's next? Bring in Charles Manson to teach us about murder?

I think it's all PC bullshite. The coach needs to get up in front of the team and say "If any of you rape a chick, your arse will be put back in the neighborhood where you came from and you'll live the life of a pauper. Got it?"

That's all that needs to be said. If I, as a coach, have to educate people on what rape is, I don't want that dumb mofo on my team in the first place.

Most likely in preparation of hiring Art Briles as Associate HC/OC next year.

Most players on the team probably don't know this word. Hell, half the posters on this forum probably don't either.

since no one else is going to say it,

why isn't she speaking during the offseason? Seems a little weird to bring her in midseason like this.

How is rape, and not raping people, a PC issue?

Rape and sexual harassment is a hot topic issue that every organization should cover. I know the military got to the point of requiring quarter-annual sexual harassment classes thanks to the growing number of reported rapes in the rank and file. Not only that, businesses are under the threat of lawsuit if they look away or are not proactive enough in the fight against sexual harassment in the workplace. Auburn is doing a service to themselves in helping protec themselves from lawsuits down the road if that issue ever comes up.
After all, Art Briles is the next HC.
