Just for the sake of discussion, what you guy's opinion of Art Briles? I realize he is pretty content on staying at Baylor but what otherwise worries you about his coaching (if anything does)?

Can you pull up Petrino's for comparison?

People will probably say no defense, but wasn't he Sumlin's mentor pretty much? I think he'd be able to adjust to the SEC pretty well.

Petrino (At Arkansas Only)

2011
POINTS AGAINST
22.75

2010
POINTS AGAINST
22.75
43rd

2009
POINTS AGAINST
25.75
63rd

2008
POINTS AGAINST
31.27
95th

There is no typo for 2010 or 2011 defenses both gave up 22.75 each season ironically.

I think good coaches adjust to what their team and conference gives him. I know there's no way to prove that for Briles but it's just a hunch. I'd take Briles over some of the guys mentioned such as Gus, Strong, Franklin, Smart, etc.

I could see Briles at Arkansas, but not at Auburn. I am suprised everyone is anti-Franklin though to be honest.

Briles has never coached outside the state of TX... texas high school legend, houston, now baylor. I don't think he'll leave.... maybe for a job like arky, or somewhere close.

Wow, Petrino had top 40 scoring defenses at Arkansas. I dont know if we've ever come close to that under Chizik (maybe 2010).

Utterly ridiculous. Petrino's defenses would be a massive upgrade over anything Chizik put on the field. That's beyond sad.

Wrong. Arkansas' defense in 2011 gave up 22.2 points per game, ranking 33rd in the country. This according to the NCAA website.

Anyway, the best scoring defense we had under Chizik was our "championship" defense in 2010. We ranked 53rd in scoring defense at 24.1 points allowed per game.

Even though it was ranked 40th, the conference rank was 9th. Thought that was interesting.

It's showing two different averages. If you look at the national rankings in the archived stats, it's showing Arkansas' scoring defense as 33rd at 22 points per game. You click on Arkansas' link and it shows what you're seeing.

Screw it. WAAYY too close to be wasting time arguing over it
