Was watching the Patriots Seattle Super Bowl on NFL network. And for some reason I decided to look up legarrette blount Wikipedia.
I found this on there anybody know if it's true?

quote:

Considered only a two-star recruit by both Rivals.com and Scout.com,[4][5]Blount was not ranked among the best running back prospects in the nation in the Class of 2005. Barely recruited out of high school, he attended camp at Auburn University but was not offered an athletic scholarship. He nonetheless intended to go to Auburn but did not qualify academically, so he headed for junior college at East Mississippi Community College.[6]

I'm pretty sure he signed or was going to walk on with Auburn out of high school, didn't make the grades, went to Junior College, and signed with Oregon after JC.

That's what they said about him in Eugene anyway. I remember thinking it was awesome a RB that almost went to Auburn was playing in Eugene where I had lived for over a decade.

He may not have actually signed with Auburn, but it was reported in Eugene that he was an Auburn RB that didn't make the grades to attend Auburn.

I don’t know if the staff at the time saw a need for a JUCO guy with Fannin, Tate, and Lester as upperclassmen on the roster

Well that was in the last days of the Tubberville regime, and he got pretty lazy on the recruiting trail the last few years. Not saying that's why... sure he may have been lowly recruited out of high school, but was the #1 JUCO RB out in 2008

And I’m just speculating. I didn’t start paying attention to recruiting until 2009. I was fascinated by Tyrik Rollison and DeAngelo Benton, and the class that the staff put together on short notice.

That's awesome. I absolutely LOVED those 2 guys. I really thought those 2 were going to be the future for Auburn... and neither did anything.

Only reason I remember the ordeal with Blount is because I lived in Eugene at the time, and thought Blount was awesome because of the Auburn connection.

Then he went on to punch that Boise State player and essentially ended his college career at the start of his SR season.

He had a solid junior year but LaMichael James came in and took over quite nicely after the suspension. And I think James may have overtaken Blount in that offense in 2009 regardless of that punch.

Easier in hindsight to say should have gone after the guy. AU was fine at RB at the time & I don't think Blount was blowing ppl away in JUCO but that was so long ago I don't remember it very well

I don't remember that.

But I did recently hear a recruiting story that pissed me off. It was Ray Lewis telling his own recruiting story in an interview. According to Lewis Miami was actually his third choice. He was undersized and skinny in HS and so a lot of bigger schools weren't recruiting him very hard. He only took 3 recruiting visits. His first visit was to Auburn and according to Ray Lewis when the assistant at Auburn who was recruiting him took him to meet Terry Bowden for the first time in person, Terry laughed at Ray Lewis and said he was too small and not fit to be a LB at this level. His next visit was to FSU where Bobby Bowden offered him, but let him know they had this guy named Derrick Brooks that was going to keep Ray Lewis on the bench until he was a senior. Lewis didn't like that and turned down the offer on the spot, and almost immediately regretted it because no more offers were coming in and he thought his career wws over, until Miami started calling.

That's a cool little story... Unless you're an Auburn fan, then its just one more reason on a long list of reasons to hate Terry Bowden. Not only did he blow a chance to potentially bring one of the greatest linebackers in the history of the game, but his talent evaluation was so bad that he thought Ray Lewis wasn't P5 caliber, and he was a complete dick about it and laughed him out of the room, forever giving Ray Lewis a reason to dislike and possibly bad mouth Auburn.

The irony of Mickey Mouse telling someone he's too small. That's very unfortunate and probably sparked Lewis's fire.

Too bad, Ray is an amazing ambassador. I recall when Baltimore was rioting, Lewis basically told them to go home. This is why there's issues and to hit the books.

Back then we would have the 25 scholarships plus more if someone went pro or count backs if previous classes didn't sign 25. We had the opportunity to take kids that couldn't qualify then place them in a JUCO that we heavily recruit. Sign and place recruits were pretty common around the SEC. But now a days even sign and place recruits count to the 25.
