Pump your brakes on Hugh…..

He will get it done at Auburn, he needs more time to overcome the potato famine and 8 win Gus. Look at Missouri, Drinkwitz is on year 5 there. We have a lot of talent but they are young and we still don’t have all of the pieces yet. The QB situation is on Hugh and I’m not defending that, he chose to hitch his wagon to Thorne so that’s on him. This is a different situation than what Chizik and Sweater Vest Shula inherited so be a little patient.
Have you EVER seen recruiting like this at Auburn? No you haven’t, he has the ability to build a juggernaut here and if he can’t get it done in 4-5 years then he needs to go. Y’all will sound a lot different after he beats OU Saturday WDE!!!

I do hope he works out. Rough start, but I’m tired of the coaching carousel and I like Freeze as a guy. I think he fits Auburn well. His pressers are fun to listen to.

On a serious note, I fully expected for it to take 3-4 years but hate the feeling of losing and there are a couple of things that are a bit concerning.
I will wait to tar and feather Hugh for another 18-24 months, but I may bitch some along the way.

Really a bummer to regress in year 2. Doesn't give me much hope.

Back to back top 10 recruiting classes for the first time in 8 years gives you no hope?

He has to produce wins on the field.. period.
There’s nothing worse than going into the locker room after losing… especially in your home stadium.
He has to win games.

It’s the cool thing to hate on Gus I know. but Auburn history will be very kind to him. I believe he’s the only Auburn coach in the past century not to have a losing season in his entire tenure (8 seasons). We’ve had 3 straight since he was fired (soon to be 4) . 2013 and 2017 (minus the postseason) were two of the most fun seasons I’ve ever watched. Alabama was at the height of the most amazing dynasty in college football history, and we held our own pretty well.

You don’t think Gus had anything to do with that? LOL.
I’m not a Gus hater, but he would have had losing seasons as a coach had he been retained. Our roster, mainly OL, was evaporating. Gus’s misgivings snowballed into this.
We have to give a coach time. Love it or hate it, Freeze will be and has to be AUs coach for 5 years. If he can’t at least get us back to Gus levels, we have a systemic problem rather than a coach problem. But firing coaches every 2 years will absolutely make us the least attractive job I the country which will destroy the program

Go look at our roster. Especially the juniors on the team. That class is pathetic. The Sr class has been propped up some by transfers but there is a huge hole in the roster

As the “regression” stems from highly paid NIL athletes throwing directly to the wrong color jersey and ball carriers acting like the football was doused in P. Diddy baby oil, I don’t know what you all are talking about.

He’ll get time, but I don’t think his recruiting is good enough to overcome the bad coaching if it continues. We will see.

Not a chance
Oklahoma’s defense is going to make Thorne and Hugh’s head spin.
WDE anyway

THIS
It’s not all on Freeze
It’s a 50/50 split between him and TPTB (GOBN which is why Freeze was the best we could do at the time). Pat Dye was the football brain behind the scenes and he is “wrestling with them Angels” now. Rane, Harbert etc. are smart in business but dumb as rocks when it comes to football. Think Jerry Jones here. No way on God’s green earth Dye would have backed hires like Harsin and Freeze or even Lane for that matter. They just “aren’t MAN enough.”
Hugh is a good recruiter because he is a narcissistic snake oil salesman but is flat out one of the absolute worst in-game coaches I’ve ever witnessed in my 50 years on earth. But now he is losing his “sales” ability by throwing players and coaches under the bus with his blame shifting.
It is what it is

Just a realist my man, just a realist.
I’ve seen way too many people in my life with his personality disorder and characteristics. They are never wrong which allows them to stay in their own way at all times.
Narcissistic collapse is quite real my friend.
Go back and look at how he finishes at many of his coaching jobs.
Remember Jimbo calling out Saban for being “a narcissist?” Classic projection there. We saw who the real narcissist was when he was shown the door. Nobody could tell ole Jimbo a thing. Saban absolutely loves input from others and was always open to changing things up and adapting.

You do realize how easy it is for those good recruits to walk into the portal now right?
If ole Hugh can’t keep his foot out of his mouth, this is exactly what will happen.

Well based on things I hear from players it seems like the younger guys like Faulk understand being held accountable and don’t mind. What is gonna end up coming out of the portal mess is that teams who recruit HS well and have groups that stick together will outperform teams built from a bunch of mercenary portal players. Just look at the UNLV QB. When the big programs figure that out and quit paying big NIL for transfers it will calm down. It will be like day trading vs long term investing.
