At this point that’s why I want him more than anybody else. He is the only “splash” hire I see us making.
I have no doubt he can recruit. The staff he has at Jackson State isn’t half bad either. If he can at least recruit we are ahead of where we are now.

My favorite thing he said was “I don’t WANT to just WIN, I want to DOMINATE!”

Winners think EXACTLY like this. Love it.

I am so on the fence about him. My instincts tell me that he is a selfish guy who would promote himself more than the program. That has always been his deal

Then the other side says that is the way of the 2000's and maybe I am just old and out of touch.

Jimbo Fisher said not so fast my friend.

This isn’t true. The reason you see the same teams at the top year after year is because they recruit well and can coach well. You need both. With Deion you hope he can hire well and then lead well. It’s not enough just to throw top talent out on the field to win championships.

I agree, we need a real football coach. Like Bryan Harsin. Now that's a real coach who gets it. 4th and 1 mentality. Work hard work. We're gonna run the stadium bleachers and we're NEVER going to take the elevator. The focus has got to be on EXECUTION. THat's what a real coach like Bryan Harsin stresses.

Do you get where I'm going with this? You should be very wary about taking "image" at face value. Things aren't always as they seem, in both directions.

I just don't think Auburn University is ready for Deion, not the other way around. The big-money people are pretty conservative.
Deion is a self-promoter sure but I think that would parlay into Auburn being in the top 5 of recruiting every year. All head coaches are selling the university and but they are also selling themselves to parents. Deion could sell ice to a Siberian.
He's always talked shite but he's always been able to back it up every time. He's not bragging, he's telling you the truth.

Even if Deion doesn't work out the next guy will have a roster loaded with blue chips.

I am not necessarily a Prime fan, but I don't understand why people discredit his time as a professional athlete. He has game planned at the NFL level. Plenty to critic Prime on, but his program management and coaching is not one, tbh. I am concerned about his health, tbh.

Yes. I could see it as being one of the best hires ever, or being the worst for AU of all time. Deion is bigger than AU on a national stage, and I wouldn’t want our boosters to get in the way and piss him off. He could call fox sports today and have a television job.

Same, although the self-promotion doesn't bother me as much as the complete absence of meaningful experience does.

Let's be honest - hiring Deion and seeing him succeed, at least for a short period, would be very Auburn. We have big ambassadors already (Bo, Barkley) and Deion would slot right in.

But at the same time, having some major crash with Deion also seems as Auburn as can be. My best guess is that he'd thrive initially, we'd have some major recruiting success and strong early signs, and then somewhere in years 2-5 the wheels would come off and everyone starts going "yeah that's why you don't hire a celebrity with minimal coaching experience and no experience leading a program of this size."

Yeah maybe. Are we going to have issues with loyalty to Deion over Auburn? Is there going to be some major fallout with all sorts of insinuations about Auburn? Are the types of kids drawn to Deion at Auburn going to be the type we can build on even if he goes?

My feelings exactly.

I suppose I would go along with a Deion hire if it came to that, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it blew up in our faces in a few years.

He won't even have to build the locker rooms, they'll finally be built by the time he arrives--maybe.
