Despite his misfortune last year he still should be a hot commodity. Can always get ten times worse. No 5-7 team deserves that kid. We deserve a Finley.

I will, honestly, take your word for it.
Any word on if/when it will be made official?

So JA to Mississippi State?

I don’t have a super reliable source but I have an acquaintance that’s close to the head of the Bulldog Initiative and they are scrambling to raise more money for Arnold. They thought they had him for just under a million for 2 years and y’all have come in and offered between 1.75 million and 2 million for 2 years. They’re shitting their pants right now and think they’re about to lose him to y’all.

He had a bad half with 3 turnovers (INT and 2 fumbles) and was benched for a few games for the QB that beat us - Hawkins.
His bad half was against Tennessee tho... not Cal or Arky. He shouldn't have been benched, TBH. He was down 5 WRs

Jackson Arnold might get ya more first downs, though, and might be a better fit for what Hugh has done historically at QB.
It's hard to guess what a QB will do somewhere else after I've seen so many come to Auburn and go from good numbers to bad (Thorne) and then QBs leave after being bad and then shine somewhere else (Nix, though not awful).
There just isn't a ton of battle tested QBs playing good against good defenses. You have Arnold who played almost like Thorne at times or worse in a equally bad situation and one's like MM who played in a better situation against worse defenses. Those look like the top options at this point by alot.

I do not.
And that is bad news for Freeze.
Very bad news.

You’re being kind again, BrounHaller *wink*
Both QBs (Thorne and Arnold) suffered behind historically depleted OLs .
Auburn, even with the loss of Cam and KLS, can provide much better receivers to throw to than what JA had to throw to in 2024 at Oklahoma, … and certainly offers a better situation than he would face in Starkvegas.
But I can’t help but think we may be missing out on elite transfer QB prospects due to the lack of a proven OL . I do believe our OL will improve in 2025, but I sure would like to see a couple more quality OL acquisitions from the portal

He was in a bad situation last year. He handled the pass rush poorly, accumulated 9 total Fumbles and took 7 more sacks than Thorne. He is clearly who we need though because he is young: only entering his third year and its not like the portal presents a savior all the time. We need more thick or thin Auburn fans around this joint.
Comparing Thorne and Arnold's stats is interesting, because while obviously Oklahoma is not a good team this year, they had better results against a comparable schedule and similar challenges... and Thorne's stats are arguably better.
Next season, the Thorne scapegoat is gone and we'll see how much of our issues stem from coaching versus the narrative that "it was all the QB".

True, but Oklahoma’s defense was much better at limiting 2nd level yardage courtesy of some superb LBs. That’s a good thing to have in the SEC. Just my dos centavos ….

Did we lose Cam Cokeman? You said the loss of Cam, he isn't in the portal

I was referring to Cam Brown in the context of wide receivers

Whatever we're going to do we need to hurry up, get our QB, and move on to the next guy. I'm losing patience, especially after the fact that we lost a lot of recruits the final couple of days(NSD). We definitely had extra cash now we're going back and forth with Miss St? Freeze better get it done period.

Only my opinion, but I think there are a lot of rumors creating a lot of smoke. Fun to yak about, but I suspect freeze has someone other than Arnold in Auburn’s crosshairs
Posted on 12/13/24 at 8:05 am to cadillacattack
Maybe but I also think he could be Freeze's Bo Wallace as well.

Only way it makes sense is if you believe Walker White is ready to start …. and Arnold would be Hugh’s insurance policy?
