Fairly certain OSU players were able to enter the portal early when Gundy was fired. I believe they got a 30 day window in October.

Correct, and this is because the players at UCLA, Virginia Tech, Arkansas, and Oklahoma State were allowed to follow the PREVIOUS rules (which granted players 30 days to enter after a coach was fired).

The rules were changed this year, and Auburn's players are bound to the NEW rules. Hence why our players can only "intend to enter the Portal" on January 2nd, just like any other college football player.

If the USF receivers are coming... to play in the same system with the same QB... How is the WR room rebuilt?
I also assume at least 2 are coming. I also assumed Amaris was coming back after he announced and thought Cam was coming back after the Loy report. Until the paper is signed, they aren't here.

Oh, okay. So hundreds of players have announced intentions to enter the Portal on January 2nd, a considerable portion of whom already know where they are going to go, but not one of them has bothered to just publicly announce their commitment to their new school.

That makes sense to you? If they could do it, someone would have done it my guy. You're talking about HUNDREDS of players.

Show the rule saying you can't announce intent.

The way that you are presenting it is actually confusing because both teams endured firings mid season so let's scan the rulebook.

Its a timing issue from when they announced the new rules.

UCLA, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State and Arkansas were grandfathered in to the old rules because those schools fired their coaches prior to the new rules being announced.

This is just a google AI summary so maybe its wrong, but

quote:

Football players can announce their intent to transfer and sign with a new school immediately upon entering the transfer portal, which has a primary window of January 2–16 for the 2025-26 cycle. While you can verbally commit anytime, signing official financial aid agreements is tied to this window or the regular February 4, 2026, signing date

I remember when Harsin was going to outwork all the other schools.

No you are not. Maybe just as hard, but you aren't going to outwork Bama and Georgia and the top teams. You are not. They have elite coaches and they have the elite talent to beat you.

If this coach is of this mindset of we will outcoach and outwork you, we hired the wrong guy once again. You have to have some 5 stars. You have to have a good bit of 4 stars. If not, you are not going to win at the highest level in college football.

I finally made sense of it. Oklahoma State got to use old rules. Therefore Meta prob wins your debate.

Took two years to get as much talent as Auburn as we’ve had in years and in 2 months it’s all gone.

All that talent could only win 4 cupcake games a year. Get rid of em all.

Facts. A marriage of talent and development is what we want. Not one over another.

We want a relentless recruiter first and foremost and then a coach that knows how.

No one is saying there is a specific rule barring a player from announcing a commitment to a certain school. We are saying expecting one is not how this works. A player isn’t barred from speaking, the announcement would expose rule-breaking behavior, so athletes typically wait until after portal entry to make commitments public and keep things above board.

It could trigger the NCAA to investigate the transfer. Players are not going to announce their commitment before the TP is open.

They’re not wrong. You DO need good players to win. But, you also need those players to give effort and be bought into what you’re doing.

If what we’re hearing about the “superstar” players is true, then the inmates were running the asylum. Asking for more money? In-game? Having to coax your top two WRs to take the game seriously?

You can have all the talent in the world, but, if they are only giving it minimal effort, you’re going to lose and go 5-7.

Think about this- the players now have tremendous leverage. They can demand more money anytime. If they don’t get it? They play half arsed and lose games. What happens then? The Coach gets fired. The player? Into the Portal for a fresh start.

This is why multi year contracts are vital to the health of CFB.

Read this carefully.

For a player to publicly "commit" to a new school, "recruiting contact" would have had to have taken place with the new school's coaching staff (otherwise how are they committing? The offer has to exist first, and an offer cant come unless there is active communication).

"Recruiting contact" with new schools is NOT ALLOWED until a player if formally and officially in the Transfer Portal database.

To commit to a new school without formally being in the Transfer Portal database is an admission of TAMPERING, which no school is going to do. Hence why NONE OF THESE KIDS have formally announced commitments, even though lots of them already have under-the-table agreements in place.

What QBs out there do we want, other than Byron Brown, that has announced portal entry? Also we don't even have the amount of players in the playoff games that are likely to have attrition, JMU has 20 already as an example (I know nothing about them, I'm not saying I want them)

Give each player in college football a one-time transfer wild card they can use anytime after Year 2. Gives them a chance to go elsewhere if it is for money, chose wrong school, chose wrong coach, coach left, whatever. But one time. Every year is absolutely maniacal.
