Hopefully higher wins than this year. Gotta keep trajectory up.

He was better than Ashford this year and it resulted in 6-6.

That’s my point. The standard isn’t “better than Ashford”. At an absolute minimum you have to be better than Ashford. I want my second and third string to be better than Ashford.

A steady reliable QB who had 28 drops last year along with countless offensive penalties.

A below average QB was the correct answer.

Portal QB’s are currently going for 2M! Coach can concentrate on DB’s, DL, OL and spend the $$$ there.

The top of the top are going for $1.5 to 2. You don’t have to get one of those. Go get a decent guy for cheaper and let him compete with Thorne.

I am absolutely not comfortable with going all-in with any of the QBs we have right now.

That’s my same point, and PT isn’t better. So it’s portal time and mix in the young guys during garbage time for some experience next year. Neither Ashford nor PT need to be the starter.

You can't tell me that after the NMST and Bama games people came away saying, "Damn, Payton Thorne really cost us this game."

I’ll ask again.

Are you going to sit there with a straight face and tell me you’re willing to bet an entire season on a guy that after improving the best thing people can say about him is “he wasn’t costing us games”?

And we’re really only talking about a few games of him being at that level…what if he can’t maintain that level and starts costing us games again?

I really don’t understand the resistance to bringing another guy in.

Cam Ward is no longer a tOSU target according to sources.

Nah, that came down to Simpson leaving the field with an injury and THEN Bowers doing Bowers things.

You're right, but Simpson came back (taped up) and K Scott had also left the game due to injury by then. If we had any depth, we stop Bowers and win that game. That takes years of building.

That goes along with Ryan Day deleting his tweet about landing Ward. Supposedly, Ward had an offer from OSU, Notre Dame and Auburn. That’s why I said watch out after Leonard’s visit to Notre Dame this weekend.

There are also murmurs that they may lose Jeremiah Smith (#1 WR) to FSU or Miami.

the 2 qb system stymied Thornes development in the offense. He wasnt at Auburn in the spring. Only had the fall practice to develop chemistry with a terrible WR group. Had very poor game plan from the OC, play calling was shite, execution was shite. OL hadnt gelled. Thorne wasnt the problem.

I am all for the competition too. I just don't see us getting a good addition.

We need another body in the room if Ashford leaves or if Holden leaves. Problem is the market rate for transfer Qbs right now is off the charts. The money they are asking is unrealistic so it may not be logical to spend millions on a Qb that may or may not pan out and still have a back up on NIL deals making half a million just to flip charts.

You’re confident enough in that to bet an entire season on it?

Basically my question to you is why are you comfortable with one competent QB?

I’m fine with people saying this. I think this is where the resistance to my argument is coming from but people can’t be honest about it for some reason.

Pretend everything will be rosy with Thorne because we aren’t getting anybody else.

Im not willing to spend millions on another transfer that may not pan out and still have Thorne collecting half a milly to flip charts.

Now if there is a Qb that we missed early on that wants to reconsider...a Leonard or Ward. You get him. If its the next tier Qb like a McCall or Miss St transfer, you dont take him and you roll the dice on Thorne making strides in the second year in the system with an entire spring, summer and fall to gel with the elite talent we are instilling in the lineup

Thorne showed that with a solid Oline and competent receivers he can go 11-2. I want Riley, but if we give him decent receivers and continue to improve the line play he'll be alright. Nobody thinks Thorne is a superstar
