I don't want JJ hiring any more coaches. I would rather my 6 year old hire the next baseball coach than JJ.

You gotta think that if history holds true, JJ will have some sort of committee to tell him how to do his job and who to hire. Hopefully, that committee will include HB.

PM is saying it does not look like there will be a committee.

you don't need a freaking committee to hire a college baseball coach... you need a stack of resumes and the ability to read.

He'll make a decent hire... nothing earth shattering, but a solid hire none the less. It'll be just like last time... he got turned down by Corbin and ended up with (what we thought was a decent hire in Pawlowski.

The bottom line is we're going to have difficulty bringing in what we'd all consider a 'home run' hire... we don't have the built-in advantages of most of our SECW counterparts, and we haven't spent the money in recent years to keep up with the jones, so to speak.

You would think so. But I'd take HB's opinion over JJ's every day of the week.

Baird was the reasoning behind Renfroe... who was more or less a clone of what we just fired. Baird was a very good baseball coach, but I'm not sold on his ability to hire a coach.

Dunn took Samford to the NCAA tourney. Samford. He is very highly regarded around here. Will he be hired? Dunno. He will certainly be interviewed.

And renfroe took over a better situation. Paw and SR are similar, mediocre coaches. I'm afraid we may hire another one with Dunn. I guess time tell.

If so be prepared for more horrible fielding an unearned runs. Samford was near the bottom in fielding percentage in the NCAA in 5 of Casey's 8 seasons there. And in the bottom half in 2 of the other 3 seasons.

Guess I'm on Team Calvi at this point. But I'll probably convince myself to be excited whoever we hire...only to be disappointed again.

if our current squad made the simple/smart baseball plays, we'd be playing in a regional right now. Our lack of fundamentals is the most frustrating thing.

Agree 100%. And Samford was almost twice as bad in that area during JP's time here.

Would be a good hire, his family knows baseball.
