Stidham believes he’s a pioneer in the “recruiting has been bad” train. That’s super cute. I’ll welcome him aboard but he’s gotta drop the pioneer tag. I’ve got systemic complaints older than that kid

I don’t know about NIL. We’re one class into a staff that can recruit within the NIL world. Hard to say yet if we’re outgunned there. I’ve learned in my lifetime that younger folks are incredibly impatient financially. Seems to be playing out on this board in similar ways. Sometimes you don’t get instant results from smart investments. I’m willing to see how things play out

Did you expect Hugh to come in on first class and have up in the top 3 in the country before ever even coaching a game?

In the world of NIL you either have the money to land top classes or you don’t. Plus, the first full cycle recruiting class is typically the highest ranked for head coaches. The new coach has a lot of momentum and playing time to sell. See Chizik in 2010 and Saban in 2008.

Hugh is an elite recruiter but he’s getting outspent for a lot of these higher end recruits.

Hate to pile on but....

Hey shat for brains..

I don’t see anyone else pointing out how far behind we are in NIL.

We might be in a wee bit better shape if those same boosters had not paid over 150 million for a new football facility and two coach buyouts. Then along comes NIL at the least opportune moment.

You want to pay every recruit whatever they desire and forget it upsets the payouts of the other 84 guys on the team. Its not what one recruit will cost, its what it will do to the rest of the players.....and whether we keep them when the next portal opens because we screwed them.

Can you even manage your household budget, do you even know what a budget is, hint its not your allowance.

Not sure where you’re getting this from. I haven’t mentioned anything but this current class.

Carry on.

That’s because no one has a clue how our NIL actually compares to any other school. There’s a million reasons schools are keeping numbers under wraps.

That’s not true. The Auburn rivals site posted the OTV subscriber numbers a few months ago and it was pathetic.

Fair point that is likely playing a major factor. Also, the OTV numbers are sad, to say the least.

You’re living pre-NIL and pre-early signing period. High school football just started yesterday and the vast majority of the good high school players are committed. In 2008 and 2010 a ton of kids were waiting until the end of the cycle to commit.

He also was likely able to outspend other teams for several others. You’re not going to be able to outright buy every kid in your class.

What was it? I find it hard to believe they know this.

We will be ok. We are on the right path. If we close out with just high 3 stars the rest of the way and get 24 kids we will probably be around 9-10. We land Carter and 2 other top 200 kids and finish out the rest with 3 stars we are probably 6-8.

If we finish top 10 this season I would call that an incredible success and ahead of schedule in year 1.

Yeah, hard to believe. We really need early season success and to go on a campaign to get more people involved.

NIL frustration is not new either, despite the recent intrigue by one teenager here We’ve been bitching about it for years

We’re paying now, which is good. I do think we got beat for Coleman, Franklin, and Patterson. I think that’s also somewhat out of our control. Ole Miss and Miami have worse classes than us and both have struck out a lot, they found local guys they could compete with us in and we got beat. That’s going to keep happening

I’m less concerned with the amount of people paying $34/mo and more interested in the actually amount of money they’re working with. Again, I don’t doubt we are lacking on fan subs considering the crap we’ve had to deal with recently. Those numbers will increase with success.

You also have to keep in mind other teams that will pass us. For example, Texas still has a lot of big names left on their board that they lead for. They're very likely going to jump us.

Oklahoma jumped us with the 5 star they just landed.

The biggest thing holding us back right now is the unknown of product on the field. Plain and simple. We are in such a massive hole from the past few years, I’m pretty amazed we are where we are. Now, does that mean where we are is where we need to be? No.

From what I’ve seen and heard, our NIL is very competitive. It’s not the best out there but it is plenty strong. Can it be better and would that make a difference? Sure.

However. We are within striking distance of where we want to be. And it’s still only August. I’m just fed up with the Debbie downer schtick at all times. Someone wants to be critical of a specific kid’s recruitment if we drop the ball, go for it. Be objective though. We’ve completely overhauled our roster and have a very solid class right now, have stolen some big time kids and lost out on some others. We are in a great position. Trying to portray anything else is just folly.

Miami is 15th on 247 and we are 16th.
