I don't think we'll be hiring anyone soon. With the holidays coming up and the dead period already started there's not a real rush. I'd imagine we'll know more in 2016.

Why do people pretend to know who Malzahn's contacts are? That's one of the dumbest things I've read on here and that's fricking saying something.

It is mostly a joke. But you might want to take a look at with whom Gus filled out the staff. Most of them are assistants to whomever Chizik had in place. That is pretty strong evidence of his connections.

Even if it were true, do you think people just fall into good contacts? Building connections takes time. The point is, though, that it's stupid message board fodder and nothing more.

I'm retarded. But the answer is Scott Fountain and Ryan Russell. A couple of others were here also.

Another rumor/speculation: Someone posted on 247 that if Tom Allen is hired he thinks that there would be a possibility of Wesley McGriff as Co-DC and Secondary coach. McGriff is currently the Secondary coach of the New Orleans Saints. Allen and McGriff were on the staff together at Ole Miss and supposedly have a good relationship. Take it for what it is worth. I have no knowledge if this would be feasible but it is something to post.

That's interesting...last year Vandy tried to hire him to be there DC and it looked like it would happen and he decided to stay with the Saints. There was some speculation that Peyton may have promised him the Saint's DC position when Ryan was fired. Of course, that didn't happen.

He is suppose to be a really good recruiter. He coached at Baylor (where he was recruiting coordinator), U of Miami, Vandy (recruiting coordinator) and Ole Miss. He has been with NO for three years I think.

If they've been co-DCs together before then I'd be fine with that

Isn't the Saints secondary the worst in the league?

I don't think that they were ever Co-DC's together if that is what you meant. They were on the Ole Miss staff together. McGriff was Co-DC at Ole Miss in 2012. McGriff was hired off of the Ole Miss staff by the Saints.

Here is his profile:

Oh I think I read it wrong.

I'm not really a fan of the co-DC thing unless we establish that one guy has more power than the other. And if we do that what's the point of having them as co-DCs?

Thats who you use as an example? You don't talk about how we have all these "day to day operations" rumors and that Gus' entire support staff were from the Chizik "program coming apart at the seams" days?

I'd pump the breaks. Guys like Derek Dooley is WR coach in the NFL and I'd rather have Troop a loop back than that moron

I'd take Derek Dooley as a WR coach

If we didn't have Craig.

I think Allen has been selected as well. His bowl game is tmw and I expect him to be official on Tuesday. Pure speculation and hope on my part.

Meh, our WRs haven't seemed to develop much under Craig. I wish Gus would let him coach QBs and hire somebody with a record as WR coach
