I'm glad I was asleep for that meltdown...Just my thoughts, it seemed like we were so desperate to hire him that the ball was never really in our court.

And just because Kelly didn't come back home that doesn't mean he isn't an Auburn guy. My Twitter has gone stupid with all of that butthurt. I wouldn't come home to Auburn either if the proverbial writing is already on the wall for Gus and I already have a pretty good gig.

Lance Thompson will be our DC, put that shite in your diaries and check it in a couple of days.

I was certain of this about 5 Mins after Boom left town.

Still wondering why it is taking Gus so long to figure it out.

I'm expecting willie Martinez or LT by 3pm today. Then we will get to hear all off season how underwhelming the hire was and how Gus is coaching for his job in 2016

Man I hope the round ball team has a nice season....

This is what I'm thinking too.

Most elite DC's that we try to pull here probably won't trust Gus to turn our program around (I'm not saying he won't). It means they would again be out of work in a season, and in CK's case, sure he could come back to Auburn, but I think the promise Jimbo shows easily outweighs what Gus can bring to the table.

I'm not sure if we should be worried or not, but I've already accepted that 2016 will most likely be a write-off.

I say go after Jack Curtis at Georgia Southern. Make him and Lance co-DC's and be done with it. Use the money you save on Kelly to bring in some solid position coaches.

Curtis has been at Georgia State for a few years and hopefully has some ties in Georgia which will be good.

Kelly isn't "elite".... he's got potential and strong ties to AU... He would've been a good hire, but we should be able to snag someone with potential.

This is why I wanted to offer TRob on the spot.

I'm glad TRob is going somewhere else to cut his teeth as a DC. Our HC is already learning his job as he goes, that's enough. We need somebody with experience calling plays and that's comfortable running the show on that side of the ball without the HC.

TRob will be learning how to be a DC under the guidance of one of the best in CFB. Hopefully he learns well so we keep him in our back pocket for later down the road.

T-rob told us he wasn't interest in an attempt to prevent saying no to an offer from his school. He may be an Auburn man but he has to think about what is best for his career. Unless Franklin is the real deal Gus is going to struggle next year with or without a good D.

IMO the stuff about significant raise, etc...was probably designed by idiots poorly trained in PR management trying to save face that he wouldn't talk to us about our DC position.

In other words, the Auburn AD?

That's not a great situation for TRob or CGM....you have a coach as a first year DC under an offensive minded HC. TRob might realize he has a bit more to learn from Muschamp regarding running an entire D. If Malzahn took a chance on TRob and TRob tanked...it would be bad for both of them.

The FSU guys don't seem to view him as elite. An up and comer might be a better fit for us. With an offensive minded HC, we will never attract a guy like Bud Foster.

wish we would just name Lance the DC tomorrow by the time the recruits come in for the big visitor weekend & be done with it. We could do a lot worse than him & by now may not be able to do much better.

This honestly should have been done awhile ago

Eh, can't blame Gustav for testing the waters and trying to bring in someone from the outside.

Unfortunately promoting from within after failing with Kelly (and anyone else he might have approached) tends to reinforce the idea that the program is headed in the wrong direction.

Disagree. Gus has shown he is willing to go after the best. That's what he did with Muschamp last year. I'm glad he's taking time and isn't willing to settle. Who are other high profile DC's who Gus went after but turned down AU because it's heading in the wrong direction? Other than Pruitt, Arnada and Foster are probably the biggest home run hires for any school and it's well known that Foster has no intention of leaving VT and Arnada likes where he is and if he makes a jump will be to NFL.

He went after Kelly and Kelly didn't want to turn his back on Fisher, which is commendable in this business.

Until Gus hires Lolley or Martinez, I'm not going to worry.
