Odom is a strong candidate. Coached (2004-2011) at Mizzou and played LB at MIZZOU. Memphis DC 2012-14 and they have improved from the worse defense in the county. Runs a 4-3 Known as a strong recruiter.
He is my second choice and I would not be disappointed with him.

Seems like it would be a huge letdown if we ended up with him...
He is a highly regarded up and comer. There was a lot of talk about him being Arkansas' new DC back in January. He is also a candidate at Texas A&M.

Clark would be a great hire. And to think otherwise is ignorant. Muschamp would be a better hire but for Auburn Clark is an easy number 2 choice.

PAM is saying our offer is near 1.5. No time table. Odom and Clark in line.
I am not sure how long Gus waits. Probable Monday at the latest.

His stats are very underwhelming during his Memphis tenure

Huh? Which stats exactly do you feel are underwhelming?

The frick are you on? They were ranked in the 100's in virtually every category prior to him getting there. They finished this season 7th in Scoring Defense and ~Top 25 in basically every category (Run, Pass Efficiency, Total, Red Zone, 3rd Down).

My only issue with Odom and Clark is their ability to recruit. We need help immediately in recruiting on the defensice side of the ball. They very well might be great coaches, but we need talent, especially in the secondary and DL, to want to join this class. I just don't see recruits getting excited about playing for either of those guys and wanting to hop on board.

Would be a major flaw with both. We are looking at 1-2 recruiting cycles with both to really know how good they are at recruiting GA and FL, which we need to be successful.

What makes him easy number two? I don't know much about him but I don't see how you can be the easy choice when he hasn't ever coached at this level.

Muschamp is really the only guy that will get guys on board immediately. If they produce good defenses the players will come.

quote:I agree we need talent because you always need talent to improve your chances of being succesful. But I do think there is more talent there than people realixed and was shown on the field because of poor coaching, lack of upperclassmen leadership, and lack of practicing fundamentals and physicality against SEC speed and talent.

I think the biggest thing with Boom is he is a known commodity at this point. Has a lot of experience coaching in this conference as well as recruiting in it.
I just don't see Malzahn taking a chance on one of these two guys. If you go back and look, Ellis had a more impressive resume than either of them.
I just wonder if the reports are wrong about Odom and Clark. Look when Gus first got here and tapped Rich Bisaccia as special teams coach. I have no idea where that relationship came from, but it would have been awesome if not for the Cowboys.

It is safe to assume the Clark and Odom talk is in the event WM says no. Everyone's main choice is Will.

No shite; Ellis is 60+ years old and has been at half the schools in the SEC. Of course his resume is going to look "better" than two guys who are just rising up the ranks. shite like that means nothing, we tried the "safe" approach with Ellis who was proven and it flopped. At the end of the day Memphis' defense shits on our own, with a quarter the talent.

quote:6 and 7A high school fans in Alabama hate Clark an understandably so but many high school coaches in Alabama respect him and therefore I thunk Clark could help close the gap on in state recruiting and be a major thorn in wee man's arse. Plus you know Clark would probably be motivated as hell to stick to Bama after their BOTs shut down his football program at UAB.

What about Bob Shoop, Penn State's DC? He did a phenomenal job at Vanderbilt and this year has Penn State's defense at #3

They also play in the American conference that had over half the teams finish the regular season under .500 this year.
