How can we afford Lane plus his buyout? I’ve heard his buyout is like 14 mil.
Over on the CC board, some OM posters were saying he had stipulations in the new contract he got that his buyout was like $20MM+ for any SEC West team. And $15MM for SEC East schools.
That's not including staff budgets/buyouts either. That's A LOT of money. I know it's not mine, but at what point do the people who are signing checks look around and say "This is insane"?

Multiple Auburn writers have stated that, but that doesn’t mean much

I agree with all that.
I think Prime would initially jump to Auburn for what Harsin was making.
The older, mature Prime sure seems like he is not motivated by money but instead the competition and wanting to “dominate.”

I don't believe this.
Mississippi state laws with the max 4-year contract situation means that they have zero power in terms of negotiating things like this, because they are already operating from a deficit just to get any elite coach signed in the first place.
The reason why his buyout is "hidden" and not talked about is because I believe it is actually very low. Think about it, you're Kiffin and Sexton: the max they can even sign you for is 4 years. If you want me to do that, he has to "get something" in return. Why would he sign a 4 year deal (when everyone else is getting 7+ years) that also makes it extremely hard for him to leave at the same time?
Ole Miss fans are just trying to convince themselves that he's not leaving, but he will. If not now, it will be very soon.

I don’t know what CC is but Lane is probably a smokescreen then

I imagine they're referring to the Coaching Changes Board, the best board on this site IMO
ETA: Forgot to mention that Steven Godfrey also included Rhule, and jokingly called him "The Football Bruce Pearl" because of his "aw shucks I'm from the north" personality that apparently people eat up.

Stoops and Grimes that high?
This does not give me a great feeling. Hopefully has no idea what he’s talking about
Yeah, I'm afraid we're really about to Auburn this thing up. How can Rhule not at least be in your top 3?

Oh damn. Did we bust the thread back open

Not a doubt in my mind.
He has basically been hinting publicly that he wants out. (Fans not showing for early games, being out bid for coordinators, etc.)

I'm hoping they were as right as last time. None had a clue. Harsin wasn't even on any of their long lists.
Right now they are looking for clicks.

No one but Lane, his agent, and Ole Miss admin know what, if any, buyout Lane Kiffin has because it has never been released publicly…but logically speaking I do not see him agreeing to a buyout like that at Ole Miss.

I see. I just assumed it was known. I knew they have the 4 year cap on state contracts that someone mentioned. And with it being a state employee contract, I just assumed it was public knowledge and they weren't just throwing shite against the wall.
Makes sense.

I tried to find some info on Kiffin’s buyout but the only thing I could find was the OM admin saying it was “healthy”.
Also, of Kiffin’s 7.5M salary only ~250k is paid by the school. The rest is booster money.

And if he had some ridiculous $20+ mill buyout for leaving to an SEC West school, they would be publicizing that weekly. The fact that no one knows his buyout suggests that its low, which would line up with what sort of limitations they're working under. And of course, everyone already knows that Lane would love the Bama or A&M job, so why would he agree to that ridiculous stipulation when he's the one that actually holds the power?
It's really not a good reality for Ole Miss, period. This past offseason both their OC and DC left for the same position and more money at other schools. But it wasn't only that, Dan Lanning pulled their S&C coach away for the same job at Oregon.
They have very little bargaining power.

Ask yourself this, do you think Jimmy Sexton would let Lane sign a contract chaining him to Ole Miss like that?
Doubtful.
What was Ole Miss going to do? Tell him to Sign or GTFO?
Now I could see his Ole Miss buyout being hefty if he was fired, because again Sexton.

What is the source for Rhule reaching out to Auburn?
Last I heard/read, Rhule only wanted to coach at a few select school’s IF he came back - and none of the school’s he would go to have vacancies or impending vacancies.

Don't you know that mfer is salivating at the Auburn job being open right now. He knows he's about to get paid...again by us.

Here is what Ole Miss released about Kiffin’s contract. They pretty much doubled his salary to stave off Miami, etc. You best believe if he had a buyout that was significant, they would have released that as well. LINK
